Shunting Cottage is an unusual stone-built ground floor former station house, one mile from Acklington and four miles from the village of Warkworth.

The cottage is comfortably furnished, and the accommodation includes two bedrooms, a delightful sitting room with a large picture window and dining area, a superb fitted kitchen and two bedrooms with en-suite facilities. Whether you are a couple looking for a romantic retreat, or a family that wants to explore the many attractions of this splendid area, Shunting Cottage is a wonderful base from which to discover all that the region has to offer. Sandy beaches, lovely villages, the stunning scenery of the National Park and more can be found in this great holiday destination.

Dog and people friendly
A spacious cottage with its own contained back garden. We were greeted by Bernard (our land-lord) who seemed genuinely pleased to see us. We found wine and biscuits for us, and a packet of the latter for our little dog. There are two bedrooms. One contains a double bed and the snore-room has a single bed. There was enough kitchen equipment for those staying in the cottage and a vacuum cleaner for use when necessary. The cottage was clean, as were the towels and bedding provided. There is plenty of places to go locally and Bernard is a mine of information. His recommended eating places proved accurate. A very reasonably priced week. I booked via Sykes Cottages.

Disappointing accommodation
Standard of accommodation not as expected. Bedroom was dirty with huge cobwebs and stains on the carpets. In fact we had cobwebs everywhere. Hospitality was good, but even the utensils were dirty. My dog has better towels too.

Very happy customers!!!!
Just returned from a great week's holidaying at Shunting Cottage. It was perfect for us and our dogs. It was comfortable, warm, clean, well equipped and had secure little patio area to allow the dogs out. It's location was great for exploring Northumberland. The area has so much to offer with castles and beaches, beautiful villages and some top rate restaurants. The owners were very helpful but not intrusive in anyway despite living in the adjacent property. They even offered to dog sit! We had a welcome gift of chocolates for us and treats for the dogs which were very gratefully received. Couldn't have asked for better. Very happy customers!!!!

A great cottage, being an ideal base for visiting Northumberland's coastal and heritage sights. Very welcoming and well equipped.
