Rundown not rustic!!!
I've booked cottages and rentals for many years and have always been impressed. However, this was very poor and I'd like my money back. ?238 is not cheap. I wouldn't normally post negative reviews as feel embarrassed for the owners, but as feedback in the visitors book is similar, it seems to be ignored, so here it is. - it smelled really bad (there are reviews in the Visitors book to this effect, so clearly a long unaddressed problem - the sofa is dirty and smelly and the wood at the front under your legs digs in. We had to put a duvet on it to a) make it more comfy b) be able to sit on it without feeling dirty! c) to mask some of the wet dog smell - the shower is unusable. A hose you attach to the taps but it doesn't reach the holder. It's too hot and then you turn cold tap 1 mm and it goes cold. The basic requirement to be able to clean yourself is a minimal requirement - used kitchen just to make tea and 1 fried egg. Appreciate it's small, but that's why it's essential to have everything up-kept and conducive to cooking We were glad to leave. I looked forward to my hotel the following night just so I could get a shower. The property is in major need of updating. The downstairs carpet is dirty too. I love a rustic cottage, but this is not rustic, it is outdated and run down and feels a bit depressing. It's a shame as it has bags of potential, and at night in the lounge with the fire on and in dark, it's almost ok apart from the smell. The layout seems ill considered. 2 people is about all that fit. Shame as has 2 bedrooms upstairs. Please spend some much needed money on this property. I gave it 2 stars for the fire plus the milk and biscuits which were a lovely touch.

A Lovely Birthday Treat
A wonderful, whimsical place to spend my birthday week. Small but just big enough to be cosy rather than cramped, this really was a perfect base camp to explore the Staithes area. Close to the beach, local pubs, shops and bus route, my Mum and I had a lovely time here and will happily come back! Highly recommended! :)

Comfy beds, clean cottage, location ok
The Cottage was clean and tidy and has very comfortable beds also very warm & has a good sized bathroom. The downstairs layout didn't really work for us. It was difficult for 3 people to watch the tv because one person has to sit under the tv in a chair facing the wrong way. The dining was also difficult, the table and chairs are situated in the bay window however you can't sit down without having to pull the table and chairs out if you all want to be seated, so really was not usable. The kitchen is small and very narrow but has plenty of utensils and was well equipped. It was quite dark downstairs too, seems lighter upstairs. The location is good and there was a car park pass provided which was much appreciated. At the time of booking there was wifi but this was stopped a couple of weeks before we visited with no reduction. Owner left us milk and biscuits for our arrival which we thought was a lovely touch. Could recommend for a couple of days or so.

We loved the holiday; the cottage had everything we needed and was spotless. The beds were comfy, the cottage was warm and had plenty of hot water. The owner was fantastic; all in all a very lovely stay in a lovely area.
