Fantastic!
Great accommodation, fantastic cottage with everything (and more) that you need for a self catering holiday. Stayed for a long weekend to visit Beamish and Durham. The cottage was spotlessly clean and very well equipped, full of all mod cons, really was a home from home, you won't want for nothing here. A welcome pack was left for us on arrival, along with a home baked cake (which was lovely, thank you very much) The location is in beautiful countryside and very, very peaceful. Probably the best cottage we have stayed in (everything considered) and will definitely return. Couldn't find fault with the cottage at all, can highly recommend to anyone who wants to stay in County Durham, a real credit to the owners. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Return Visit
I booked South Byre last minute due to family emergency. I requested arrival on Thursday and was very thankful that was only charged for extra day unlike other places who add premium on. I was very grateful for this. I feel very comfortable in this cottage. It is very clean. To say it?s well stocked is an understatement. Once again piles of goodies left for me! I have never stayed anywhere else that does this. Lots of snow! Probably could of got out but not used to driving in snow/ice. The next day I took it slowly and managed no problem. I met Carole the owner this time and she was very helpful. If you like peace and quiet this place is fabulous. I had a problem with the heating which was sorted out very quickly. Someone had adjusted heating so was hot in middle of night and off when you needed it. Lovely warm cottage. Comfortable bed. Convenient for Bishop Auckland Hospital.

Welcoming perfection!
Fantastic place to spend a few quiet days. Well equipped and Carol attentive to every request. Well stocked with food made for a very pleasant stay in a warm, cosy cottage. Would definitely return for more spoiling! The snow which fell added to the outdoor scenery. Horses in the field outside the cottage and sheep grazing on the hills. Lovely setting fast outside a small village about 5 miles from Bishop Auckland. Ideal for a stay with dogs or children.

Why haven?t I stayed here before!
I have seen this cottage on TripAdvisor many times and I don?t think the old photos did it any justice. I cannot even begin to explain how I felt when I arrived at this cottage. I wasn?t expecting much as I usually pay more. I had just been to a fabulous cottage in Chelmorton in the Peak District. When I walked into the cottage I was speechless! You are surrounded by countryside. There is a view from every window. When you open the door through to kitchen/lounge you have a fabulous bright room with a equally wonderful view. If you like bird life you will not be disappointed. Would love to have binoculars but since I?m travelling from New Zealand can?t bring everything. I was contacted by text on my mobile re combination number for key safe. It?s by the patio doors. Entry is through front blue door. I used my gps and postcode provided to locate the property as easier when travelling on your own. It does not bring you to South Byre but to a farm down the same road. The blue door helped! The tennis courts where you turn down the road are easy to miss as overgrown. I was informed that there would be a welcome pack. I stay in cottages frequently in England (3 on this trip) so usually I know what to expect. There was a ridiculous amount left for me and that was beside the food in the cupboards. I didn?t use any of the food in the cupboard but I would of replaced it if I had. Maybe this is how it works. Over the top! Not expected. I have never had anything like it before. It is so handy having condiments, so appreciated. What I cannot understand is why more people don?t put their reviews on TripAdvisor as this helps others. There?s not many reviews for this cottage. The guest book at the cottage is very full, all positives and many repeats I just presume they don?t want to share with others! The horses in the field kept me amused, you knew when it was time for them to go home for dinner. I wonder if their owners realise how much pleasure they provide. The cottage was nice and warm and very clean with ofcourse lots of cleaning stuff. An excellent washing machine, place to hang washing outside. Good shower over good bath. Clean sheets and towels were provided for second week of my stay. Thick mattress topper on bed. Lounge with comfy leather sofas, decent TV. Excellent easy parking. No noisy road but easy to get to. Wifi was excellent. Tescos mobile worked in area. I didn?t shop in area as I was visiting my father in Consett everyday so shopped there. This is a cottage I will be using again. Thank you for the cake!
