A gem of a cottage in a delight of a village.
The Smithy is a delightful, beautifully presented and well equipped cottage, which delighted us from the moment we arrived. The owner was friendly and welcoming making sure we knew where everything was and where the local amenities were, including the local pubs and other attractions. We thoroughly enjoyed the fundraising BBQ and pizza night at the Red Lion, as well as the lovely food of the Saracens Head. We enjoyed some lovely days exploring Illam, Chatsworth (including High Tea) and the Museum of Childhood at Sudbury Hall, as well as catching up with friend in Derby and Nottingham. All in all we had a lovely time and hope to return before to long.

Fabulous pace to stay, well situated and accomodation was 1st class, absolutely worth a return visit
Little quiet village of Hollington, with a handy Pub 5mins walk serving good food, was great. We visited the wonderful Chatsworth House, we found a lovely little tea room in Matclok Bath called Hollington is a small friendly village just of the main route. The local pub, The Red Lion is only 5 minutes walk, and also serves good food. We visited the glorious Chatsworth House. Found a great little tea room called "The Clock Strikes 3" in Matlock Bath, recommend a visit. Bakewell was quaint especially for "Tart Lovers" ! Nearest town is Ashbourne, a lovely town with lots to see and some lovely shops and lots of eateries. But by far the best thing about our trip was The Old Smithy itself, what a great place to come home to. Our host Philippa was welcoming, gracious and a very bubbly lady (& she greeted us with some home made cake and the means to make a cuppa before we unpacked, marvellous) Well done Philippa work cottages are a credit to you. Hollington is a little village just off the main road, it has a great pub, The Red Lion

Fantastic cottage, clean, well maintained, felt like being at home, but on holiday. Phillipa is a great host, friendly and helpful and the sheep were friendly also, when feeding them bread. Local pub is excellent and the views spectacular. We will return one day definitely,

A relaxing break with everything you want from a holiday. I would recommend The Old Smithy to anyone. The weather was kind, and the area was what I expected. We all enjoyed the break.

I absolutely cannot fault this property and the owner was delightful. The cottage is decorated beautifully and the bedroom with the giant bath, really is luxurious! The furnishings are all extremely comfy and there are plenty of plates and glasses etc. There is a lovely courtyard setting too. We will definitely be coming back, in fact we have looked to book again already, but it seems very popular. Excellent!
