A beautiful cosy cottage in a great location!
We had a lovely time at Castleton Cottage. It had everything you needed, lovely hosts and an amazing log burner - which was just what we needed after long soggy walks in the mountains! Braemar itself has everything you need - a co-op, gift shops and some lovely eateries. The cottage is perfectly situated for a very short walk into the town, and there are plenty of walks in the mountains, for all abilities, in easy reach. A fantastic stay and we will be back!

A lovely cottage
We had a lovely stay in Braemar in August which wasn't the warmest or driest of our visits to Scotland so a good accommodation was essential. The two of us are keen hill walkers so coming back to Castleton Cottage each night, where after lighting the fire, enjoying a lovely shower and spreading cloths out to dry is essential. The cottage soon warms up and we had the choice of eating out in the many local eateries or eating in, the trusty coop is also local for ingredients. Sleeping, we always kept the bedroom door closed and window open, very comfortable, a choice of a thinner duvet would have been used but not a problem. After two weeks we still have a few more Monro's to do so we will definitely be back there. Dave

A wonderful place for exploring Deeside and the Cairngorms
When arriving, we were welcomed by the friendly owner who lives next door. As we visited Braemar in late March, the weather was still cold and damp. Therefore it was such a nice experience to find Castleton Cottage cozy and warm with the fireplace already lit. It took us just a minute to feel at home in this lovely cottage. The worst experience was leaving after a wonderful week.

Cosy but spacious cottage in an idyllic village
The cottage was warm and welcoming on arrival. Sandra & Derek were really friendly and were just next door if we needed them. We really enjoyed the home-made treats that kept appearing through the week! The kitchen / lounge felt quite large yet it was also cosy. It had everything we needed. Once the log burner was roaring this living area soon warmed up. The bedroom is really spacious and the bathroom has a bath & shower. There is a small porch for boots and coats. The downsides are that the burner needs time to warm the place up and the bedroom can get a little cold. (Electricity is paid for via a meter and we didn't want to pay a lot for the storage heaters). There is no towel rail in the bathroom but we hung them up in the lounge when we went out.

Lovely visit, missing it already!!
Beautiful little cottage with everything you need all there for you. Sandra and Derek were so warm and friendly, they showed us in (with the fire already burning for us, kettle boiled, milk and bread in and fresh flowers on the side) they were next door if needed them (which we didn't, as there was plenty of info on where to go and what to do in the cottage). The location was superb and want to go back again as feel we only discovered a fraction of the surrounding area. Could not fault anything at all. As for the negative comments about the decor and colour coded chopping boards??? I have no idea what planet people are on sometimes. If you want a modern decor (which i always think feels too clinical) then go to a hotel!! This is a COTTAGE and i think it is perfect just as it is. And there are plently of chopping boards and utensils, everything is well thought of. Will definately be returning one day. Missing the fire and cozy evenings already.
