Perfect peace at beautiful Owl Cottage
We spent 3 nights in Owl Cottage in the amazing Durham Dales. From the moment we set foot in the cottage we were immediately relaxed as this little place has such a feeling of calm about it. The cottage is petite with one room downstairs which hosts the most well planned kitchen area which is fully stocked with all equipment you could possibly need, and a fabulous lounge dining area. All tastefully furnished and spotlessly clean. The icing on the cake is the wood burning stove which was crackling away on our arrival and heats the whole house. Perfect to sit beside and relax . There is a utility outside and wood and coal store all fully stocked. Upstairs a big bedroom it's a very comfy king sized bed and cast iron fire place with decorative twinkling fairy lights which were beautiful! A lovely bathroom with bath and shower over and soft fluffy towels. The owners have clearly gone to a lot of trouble preparing this cottage to cater for guests to a high standard and kept the era and history of the cottage in mind throughout.
The weather wasn?t great but this did not matter one bit as we spent our time in the peaceful cottage relaxing and when the weather was a little better we enjoyed the forest walks just opposite the cottage with beautiful scenery and rivers and waterfalls. The walkways are all tarmac so your boots hardly get dirty. We popped into the village to the well stocked coop and this was only a 5 minute walk. Very attractive place.
We recommend the village pizza shop who deliver and the pizzas were the best.
Claire the owner kindly went out of her way to supply a birthday cake and balloon as requested for a special birthday, and even kindly left a bottle of bubbly for us to enjoy. She was quick to answer any questions we had and also provides lots of information about places to go in neat folders in the cottage.
There's even a little welcome dog basket on the stairs with towels and paw wipes which came in handy with a mucky little dog on return from walking.
If you are looking for a restful break then we cannot recommend Owl Cottage enough. We think it should be named Peace Cottage really as that's exactly how it made us feel!!!
We will be returning in the summer to enjoy the area in better weather, and meanwhile will enjoy the happy memories that this holiday cottage created for us.
Big thanks to Claire and her husband. You do the most amazing job!!!!
Cosy, dog friendly little place with a heap of love from the owners
We stayed for 3 nights in October and had the most wonderful time. The cottage is cosy, with one real fire heating the whole place. The weather was terrible during our stay (it didn't stop raining) but we had such a lovely time. The owners have made a real effort to make this place comfortable. The use of space in the kitchen is really well done and the attention to detail makes it a real gem (from a choice of wine, gin and Prosecco glasses to good quality cling film and tin foil - this things make a difference!) The cottage allows for one dog to stay and the owners really make it easy for you. A welcome basket on the stairs with dog towels, wipes and a boot rack means its easy to keep the place clean. With just 2 rooms upstairs the cottage really is petite but the bedroom is a really good size with a walk in wardrobe with lighting and a REALLY comfortable kingsize (I think!) bed. The bathroom is very clean (looks almost brand new) and has plenty of space. We would highly recommend this cottage especially if you have a dog. We planned to visit many of natures gifts during our stay (low force, high force, the starry sky etc) but found ourselves just wandering through the woods (the entrance is almost on the door step) and discovered waterfalls, rivers, hills, sheep ! Teesdale is a really charming place, the people are so friendly and with a choice of pubs, restaurants, cafes, bistro etc a 5 min walk form the cottage we were delighted to park the. car on Friday and not get in it again until Monday.
Stayed in this delightful cosy cottage for a week and it is extremely clean and comfortable and has everything you need.
The hosts are lovely and left a bottle of wine for us on our arrival which was a really nice touch.
The area is great for walking and cycling and the local pubs and cafes are only a few minutes walk away.
Would definitely recommend
