This charming cottage in Thornton-le-Dale sleeps six people in theee bedrooms.

Chestnuts is a welcoming cottage in Thornton-le-Dale. The accommodation is set mainly above a village shop, with a kitchen with dining area on the ground floor, and upstairs, a sitting room with dining area, snug area, bathroom and three bedrooms, two with king-size beds. Outside is a small yard area with bench, roadside parking and the amenities of the village are on the doorstep.

Chestnuts makes an ideal base for touring the moors and coast.

Dirty property
This property was dirty and run down. As you walk into the kitchen there was a terrible smell of wet dog and upon walking upstairs the property stank of cigarette smoke (this included the beds). The cutlery/crockery/glassware was dirty in the cupboards and there were dog hair all over the floors (even bits of sweet packets under the nest of tables). In the single bedroom somebody else's clothes were hung in the wardrobe??? The toilet brush was VERY dirty (I will say no more) and the banister turned a cloth black when we tried to clean it as it was sticky to touch. The overall furnishings were tired and need to be replaced (saggy sofas, chipped plates, damaged bath and stained wallpaper). This cottage is set in a lovely location and beside a great bakery (over the road) but needs a complete revamp to bring it up to basic standards. Very disappointed.

A lovely hidden gem
A very well located property in a beautiful village. Situated next to a convenience store and sandwich shop you have everything you need on the doorstep, and the New Inn next door but one is superb. Parking is available here if you have a nice chat with the landlord. Their food is excellent and the meal deal hour 5-6pm is great value. 3 miles from Pickering, 17 miles from Scarborough this house is in a great location. The kitchen is downstairs and all other rooms are upstairs, this is kind of like a bug that above a shop. Spacious rooms, two sitting areas, two dining areas. I'm sure we will be back! Public footpath and woods walking area just over the road, children's play park only 2 minute walk away.

Chestnuts was very cosy and comfortable.

Thornton le Dale is a beautiful place to stay. Chestnuts is the ideal holiday stay, the house has everything you need for a home away from home.

The property was lovely! A really good set up, the area with a sofa and telly is ideal for the kids or even adults who want to snuggle! The area is great with lots of easy going walks around the village. There is some beautiful land around to see. Also ideal for visiting Whitby, which we did.
