This fabulous, stone-built terraced cottage, built in 1680 in Preston-under-Scar, can sleep four people in three bedrooms.

Emcot is a wonderful, mid-terrace stone cottage, built in 1680 in Preston-under-Scar, three miles from Leyburn in North Yorkshire. The cottage has three first floor bedrooms, including a king-size double room. There is a first floor bathroom, a ground floor shower room and a sitting room with a south facing balcony. On the lower ground floor, there is a kitchen with a dining area and a sitting area for two by a woodburning stove. There is also roadside parking available on a first come/first served basis, but which is usually available. Set in a wonderful spot, with so much to see and do in the surrounding area, Emcot is a wonderful base for couples, friends and families.

Amazing cottage. Will be back.
Spent a week of bliss in this cottage with my husband, 3 year old daughter and extremely pregnant baby bump!!! Jennifer went the extra mile in giving me lots of recommendations on the phone for organising my husband's 40th birthday which happened whilst we were away and also keeping my 3 year old happy on holiday. Recommendations were all spot on and extra special touch of a bottle of fizz for the birthday was very much appreciated (we will enjoy once baby is here!!!!) Highlights of the cottage itself were the bathroom with the view - my daughter loved watching the sheep as she bathed every night, sitting on the lovely balcony in an evening and hearing the steam train go by, lovely comfy beds and just an all round lovely, homely feel. Very well equipped with everything we needed. Jennifer also rang us to see how our stay was and my husband enjoyed talking to her husband about the amazing bike rides he had done. All in all a lovely stay with owners that go the extra mile. Will be back with the new addition to our family for sure!!!!

A Charming Cosy House
This is a lovely house with a beautiful garden and upstairs balcony and breathtaking views of the Yorkshire Dales from every south facing window. The property is full of 17th century charm with modern utilities, excellent bedrooms, warm and cosy throughout. We loved the downstairs sitting room/kitchen with the log burner and useful utility room for the family dog and wet weather clothing. A great holiday house for all ages!

Wonderful, characterful cottage with both areas to spread out and ones in which to cosy up!
We stayed at Emcot for the October half term, optimistically hoping for big blue skies and sunshine to facilitate our first family walking holiday. The weather didn't oblige but we were more than happy to hole ourselves up in the cottage, reading or playing one of the many games or watching one of the DVDs available - accompanied by tea and biscuits! The cottage itself is extremely comfortable and welcoming being so thoughtfully furnished and equipped; you can tell this was a home for many years. The lounge provides plenty of space/seating to spread out and relax with a fabulous view from the Juliet balcony by day and amazing star filled skies by night. The kitchen/diner is so cosy with the wood burning stove that once that's going it's hard to tear yourself away. Bedrooms are very simply furnished but beds are very comfortable and we all slept well. Finally, the location is fabulous with lots of walks from the doorstep or within a 15min drive and lots of good eateries around. Particular highlights for us were Castle Bolton, Middleham Castle and the Forbidden Corner which the kids loved!

Gorgeous house
This is such a lovely, welcoming house with amazing views of the countryside. For us it was our first time in Yorkshire, so it made a big impression on us and we'd love to go back. The highlights included the beautiful kitchen with wood burner, the comfortable lounge with plenty of space to spread out and relax, the very comfortable beds (good mattresses!). My daughter (4) loved the bath with a view (!). The garden was a great place to potter about and she also liked the handy village playground just metres away. There's a lovely vintage tea shop just a short walk down the hill, which was very pleasant. We loved the friendly village and it was well-situated for day trips. Castle Bolton was really impressive, as well as Richmond and the lovely station gallery there. We had some wonderful meals out as recommended by the house owners; the Blue Lion in East Witton and the Sandpiper Inn in Leyburn being the most memorable. Our daughter loved the Wensleydale creamery and we had the best cheese scones there! Many thanks to the owners who provided us with a lot of personalised recommendations and made us feel very looked after! We loved your family home.

Home from home
This cottage was a real 'home from home'. Everything we required to cook either a full breakfast or an evening meal was to hand. The views from the windows were so beautiful and relaxing. The neighbours when we saw them were very friendly. Jenny the owner provided a very personal service which was very reassuring. Thank fully we did not need to contact her. Thank you for sharing your home. It was perfect. We will be back.
