A mid-terrace Victorian property, a short walk from the beach in Whitby, with eight bedrooms accommodating up to 15 people.
Hidden Treasure is a wonderful family holiday home near the beach in Whitby, on the coastline of North Yorkshire. The property can accommodate up to 15 people in eight bedrooms set across the first, second and third floors. These include four double bedrooms, two with en-suite shower rooms, and two slightly smaller on the third floor.
There are also three single bedrooms, one with an additional pull-out bed, and a family room with a double bed, a single bed, and a further pull-out. There is a bathroom on the second floor, a shower room on both the first and second floors, and two separate WCs. The kitchen, which has a small dining area for eight people, can be used to prepare delicious meals for the family, or picnics for days out and about exploring the North York Moors and Coast.
There is a separate dining room with an open fire and seating for 15, a first floor sitting room for 10 and a small sitting area in the lobby where you can curl up with a good book. Outside, there is a small enclosed patio to the front with seating for six, roadside parking on a first come, first serve basis with scratch card permits and a five-minute walk to the beach and amenities of Whitby. There is so much to see and do in this beautiful part of the country, but Hidden Treasure is sure to be the jewel in the crown of your holiday experience.

Would definitely not recommend This property was so filthy and badly equipped that by the end of our stay we had amassed a huge list of things which were not up to standard. A number of us have read an August 2018 review for this house (one month after we stayed) and are astounded by the glowing description of the property which in no way whatsoever matches our own experience. Two of the toilets had no sink. One of our party is an Environmental Health Officer and pointed out that this was in violation of current regulations, along with the total lack of ventilation in the kitchen. Floors were grubby as if they had not been vacuumed and the dining/living room rug was covered in dog hair ? one of our party wanted to do yoga in there but found it impossible. It was hard to feel comfortable as everything felt tacky and unclean. A number of the top bedrooms had doors which wouldn't close and one banged so much in a draught it had to be propped ajar with a pillow all night. Rooms on the top floor had chest-high wardrobes (one of which had no hangers) and one of them had no clothes storage at all. Bedding for the pullout beds was not there as promised and we had to improvise with blankets we'd brought with us. The heavy slide door on one of the showers came off its runner repeatedly, once while a child was inside. There were no shelves or cupboards in the kitchen for food storage meaning all 13 of us had to pick out of numerous bags cluttering the floor space all week. The downstairs toilet was blocked and despite texts promising a plumber nobody came out. There was barely any natural light in the very dingy kitchen due to most of the window being boarded up to block out the view of the utility room, and there was no ventilation at all. A quarter of the ceiling was taken up with a horrible brown stain from flooding and the inside of cupboards smelt strongly of damp. In fact the entire kitchen and downstairs area smelt fusty and unaired. Hardly anywhere to hang up washing (one flimsy small washing rack). We had to bring our own large pans ? thanks to a previous review warning us ? as there were not enough and some we found were very grotty and unusable due to being rusty and old. The cheese grater was so horribly rusty we had to shop for our own. The extractor fan above the oven collapsed and fell out when being touched and was covered in grease and grime. We managed to put it back but were unable to use it again. The coving in the front room has visible layers of dirt and old cobwebs - clearly nobody has given this place a proper clean in a very, very long time. Some parts of the sofas in this room collapsed under you when you sat on them. The burgundy 'table cloth' was absolutely vile like something from a pub which has seen lots of greasy items and not been washed between customers. The front garden is very unappealing with seating for fewer people than advertised. To add insult to injury the property welcome info handed the responsibility of watering the garden to us! The pictures of the dining room on this site are completely different to how it looked when we were there ? the furniture was not the same, it was more cramped in layout and the fireplace was covered up with a chest. We would NOT recommend this property and are very shocked and puzzled by the 5 star positive review left in August! It seems highly improbable that all of these things have been rectified in one month. The only positives we can muster up are the fridge freezer (large and clean), fairly comfortable beds (despite stains on some sheets) and the location which is very handy for beach and shops. Despite complaints no compensation was offered. Misty_Soph 2018-09-14
Unacceptable This property is not up to standard and I complained to Sykes. Broken bath taps, extractors that don't work, toilets with no basin, doors that have no catches and rattle, damp and mould on kitchen ceiling, wobbly dining chairs and sofa with one half unusable, strong smell of damp in kitchen cupboards and rusty utensils, tacky table cloth,no ventilation in kitchen, no cupboard space for own food, no bedding for pull out bed, stained sheets, The house needs a really good clean. Many of these have been mentioned before and clearly nothing done. The description says outside seating for 6. There are seats for 4, just! Susanna H 2018-08-08
Not enough room for amount of people This house is too small for the numbers advertised - yes there is bedroom space (just) but not enough room to gather together. If the lounge had been left as the original and not had a bedroom made in it it would make a more sociable space. It also has many flights of stairs - elderly or disabled would really struggle. Our biggest complaint was the listing says 7 bathrooms - even taking into account the 2 toilets with no washbasins (which usually meant hand washing in the kitchen sink which is totally unhygienic) there are only 6 in total (2 being ensuite). This meant 9 of us were in effect fighting for one shower room and one bathroom ( with handheld shower that fell to pieces) - not very relaxing on holiday. As others have said the heating was all turned to off when we arrived and there was no instructions - we had to hunt down the controls. The rubbish disposal is disgusting - no clear indication which is the bin to use , no recycling bin - rubbish all over the street. Plus points hot water and warm rooms once we got the heating working. Nice fridge freezer, nice central place. Leah T 2018-04-06
Not quite the hidden treasure as expected Very large grand house from the outside. Once inside, its a different story. Decor tired, very over crowded ground floor sitting room/dining room with large table, sofas and a mix match of dining chairs many of which were broken.
For the number of bedrooms there are not enough bathrooms and certainly not the number which is stated on the profile. We ended up with 9 people sharing 2 bathrooms.
Sitting rooms very draughty, we ended up putting newspaper over the open fires to try and reduce the cold draught whistling down the open chimneys.
We were led to believe that parking permits would be allocated. When we arrived the people cleaning the house, informed us they were not required as parking was free between November and March. This was clearly not the case as one of our party received a £50 fine.... Travelchick1969 2018-01-13
Great location. This property is in a great location and rooms are adequate and warm but the place is in need of some decorating and refurbishment as some furniture is broken and mis match,a lack of pots and pans.
Plus side is beds are comfy and there is lots of seating,a good no frills place to stay but in need of some T.L.C. chrisworthington48 2018-01-08
