A lovely, ground floor cottage, link-detached to the owner's home, in Abergele on the North Wales coastline, with two bedrooms accommodating four people.
Tan y Coed is a lovely cottage, link-detached to the owner's home in Abergele, a small town on the coastline of North Wales, between Rhyl and Colwyn Bay. The cottage is set solely on the ground floor, with two bedrooms and a bathroom. There is a well-equipped kitchen and a sitting room with a dining area, a woodburner-style electric fire and patio doors leading into the garden. The cottage has two lawned gardens, one at the front and on at the back that is enclosed with a patio, furniture and a barbecue. There is also bike storage and roadside parking just outside. The beach is around a three-minute walk from the front door, across the Wales Coast Path, meaning Tan y Coed is a fantastic base for exploring North Wales, with lots of wonderful walks and bike rides to be had from the doorstep!

Overrated by Sykes Cottages The evening we arrived home we received a call from Sykes stating that the owner had demanded ?30 because the bed was covered on dog hair and smelled of dogs. We have 2 Cocker Spaniels. Foolishly I paid on the spot and then. In hindsight, emailed Sykes with my reaction and comments about the property:
?Since contacting you last night and paying the ?30 as demanded by your client I feel I really must complain myself and should not have paid in the first place. My dogs are not dirty and smelly! They are English Cocker Spaniels (photos attached taken Friday 20/10/17 in the bungalow hallway) and we rented the bungalow for the week as there was a dog show in Queensferry that we had entered them for. They were bathed on 13/10 before we set out and they were professionally groomed (at a cost of ?100) on Friday ready for the show. What appeared to be hair to your client was either fluff from the new black & white vetbeds they slept in or from a previous dog (we did notice dog hair in the hall cupboard where the vacuum cleaner etc. were stored.
We kept the place clean and used our own towels as a "doormat" to wipe the dogs' feet when they came back into the bungalow. My wife used their orange micro-fibre mop daily where debris was being blown around the house. When we arrived the bedroom window was open. Was that to remove the smell from the previous owners?
We have never had complaints before from any of your previous clients or those of any other dog-friendly holiday cottage companies, including 5-star AirBNB owners.
Not once during the week did we see or hear anything from the owners, despite the fact that they supposedly lived closeby. And, as you may be aware, on Monday night the North coast of Wales was hit by the hurricane (90 mph winds recorded). It was frightening. I'm not sure whether the shed was fixed to the fence by wire or vice versa but both were rocking visibly in the winds. And there was debris on our front lawn in the morning. The local news warned of possible power cuts but there was not a torch to be found in the bungalow. There were candles but no matches and battery lanterns without batteries, and not once did the owner call to ask if we were alright.
I'm not sure how the bungalow gets a Sykes 4-tick rating. If this is the standard of 4-tick accommodation, then you can take my email address off of your subscription list. The only plus for the property was location. I notice now that there was only 1 TripAdvisor review which was a year old and rated as 5/5. And we also noticed whilst we were there that there is no Visitors' Book! I wonder why.
Here are some of the shortcomings we noted:
1 - both settees have no spring and you would sit with knees up in the air if you didn't use the cushions to sit on. My wife has had both hips replaced and, at times, we found the dining chairs to be more comfortable;
2 - Not sure where the fire extinguisher is
3 - the mattresses had gone in the double bed which led to a few sleep-deprived nights
4 - the bed cover that supposedly smelled of dogs must be years old and definitely not worth the ?30 cost of cleaning
5 - the shower taps needed constant adjusting to maintain a comfortable temperature whilst showering, varying from cold to scolding hot without any other taps being turned on. Potentially dangerous for children
6 - when we arrived, the non-recyclable wheelie we bin was already full, so we had to compress our waste into it as best we could?

Home from Home We have just spent a week's holiday in this very well presented Home from Home. We have stayed in a lot of holiday homes & cottages, but this one is by far the best. We had our two Cocker Spaniels with us and the garden was very secure. The holiday home is well placed to explore North Wales, which we fully enjoyed. In addition there is a clean beach within a ten minute walk to exercise a dog. We will definitely consider coming back and staying here again.

Tan y coed was clean and relaxing, short walk to beach and easy access to visit other places along the coast, if you don't want to use you're car you can jump on a train.

The bungalow was excellent, very well maintained and clean with lots of extras available. The owner of the property was very polite and approachable, will look forward to returning next year. Mrs Richards 2016-06-21
Lovely spacious Cottage, spotlessly clean, ideal location to explore North Wales and close to a dog friendly beach. Loved the garden ideal for dogs and children due to it being completely enclosed. Simply stunning! Hodgson 2016-06-05
