Bramble Cottage is a beautiful barn conversion situated in the village of Birkby, 1.6 miles from the town of Maryport in Cumbria. This cottage sleeps eight people in four bedrooms, consisting of one ground floor zip & link twin, one king-size double with en-suite shower room, one first floor zip & link twin and one double, as well as a bathroom with roll-top bath. The cottage also has a kitchen with dining area, a sitting room with woodburning stove and a games room. Outside there is ample off road parking and a private garden and terrace. Bramble Cottage is a wonderful holiday home, close to many tourist attractions and great places to visit.

Our worst holiday experience My husband and I were booked in to stay at Bramble Cottage for a week?s holiday.
Upon arrival, our first impression was disappointment because the property looked tired from outside.
On entering the cottage, we took our shoes off and went to look round downstairs.
When we went into the downstairs bedroom, it obviously had not been used/entered for some time, as there were masses of cobwebs that enveloped our faces when we walked through the door.
We went back into the kitchen, at which point we had only passed through 3 rooms when we found that our socks were absolutely covered in debris and long hairs.
On closer inspection, every single floor surface had some debris or hair on it.
Then we noticed water all over the floor at the back of the kitchen. The dishwasher was leaking its waste water into the drawer below and then onto the floor.
Looking further at the kitchen facilities highlighted just how dirty the room was. All of the cupboard handles in the kitchen were sticky/tacky. All of the front faces of the panels in the kitchen were grubby.
The fridge was dirty inside. There was debris on some of the shelves and the seal and bottom of the fridge were covered in hairs, black dust and cobwebs.
The freezer drawers had debris in them and were not clean.
The washing machine had laundry in it. We have no idea if it was clean or dirty or what it was.
The cookers were not clean. In the small cooker near the sink, there was a silver tray with some brown sticky mess in it and debris on the oven base.
The downstairs toilet sink had lots of bits of black dust in it.
The downstairs toilet had a 4-5 foot pile of laundry by the side of the toilet. So that lovely crisp bedding you snuggle up to at night, has been stored next to a toilet! The Cleaner needs to be educated in basic hygiene practices, as these will be covered in particles from any toilet flushes.
There was a long since deceased plant in the kitchen window, leaving dead leaves round it, this should?ve been thrown away a long time ago. We had a quick look upstairs and noticed that the far end bedroom window had many cobwebs on the top right corner but didn?t inspect further.
There was a kitchen chair with bent legs, the front door was sticking, requiring a firm shove on the bottom right to actually open it and there was a for sale sign dumped behind the garage.
During discovering all of the above, we made contact with the owner and advised of our issues, initially when discussing the leaking dishwasher, we were told to use some of the spare towels to mop up the water! Then as more problems came to light she said she could try to contact the Cleaner but we informed her that this went beyond just a wipe down.
We weighed everything up and came to the decision that we could not possibly stay there and made the journey home.
It was requested that we take photographs of the problems we had found, which we did.
We passed these along with our findings to the Managing Agent. However we were then informed that the owner would not agree to a full refund, despite seeing the pictures taken and Sykes? suggestion that this would be the appropriate course of action.
After several phone calls to the Managing Agent, this was resolved, they advised that the owners had agreed to return their cut and Sykes would return their commission so we would be refunded in full.
Via Sykes, the owner said they felt that they had not been given the opportunity to rectify the issues. The owner clearly does not understand the extent of the issues. The property needs a deep thorough clean and the dishwasher needs to be fixed.
Where we would be expected to store or cook our food whilst this deep clean took place is beyond me. Not to mention the complete lack of privacy if we were to have Cleaners and Repair Engineers working in the cottage whilst we were supposed to be on our holiday!

Fantastic Cottage!! I came here with a group of friends for a weekend in April and when we arrived the place looked amazing.
The interior was faultless! 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets was definitely enough to accommodate us all.
The kitchen was big and spacious, living room was smaller than expected, but it didn't cause any issues - the wood burner unit was lovely!
Bathroom was lovely, nice big shower and the bath tub was very deep!
Location was good, not much within walking distance - there was a nice pub just 1.5mile down the road. There is an Asda about 10mins drive down the main road past Maryport.

Great Stay I stayed at this hotel for a weekend trip with friends. There were 8 of us in total, 6 adults and 2 young kids. Once we found the house (sat nav broke on route so it was a little harder than expected) it was lovely. You enter into a lovely big kitchen and step down to the living area, really well laid out. It was very clean and tidy and there were lots of equipment/utensils for us to use. The bathrooms were really well laid out with expensive and modern showers in 2 of them.
Games room in the garage with a table tennis table and a dartboard, both were well used!!

This was an excellent holiday home experience. The communication with the owner was useful and friendly. The house itself is great as a holiday home, it has lots of character as a house but with modern d?cor and very well equipped. We also manage holiday homes and therefore like to think we know what we are talking about, and we would say that Bramble Cottage is one of the highest standard holiday homes we've seen. Little things such as the table tennis and darts board out in the garage has given us ideas on how to improve our own homes! Mrs We had a fantastic week here with great weather. A gorgeous home with everything you need and more. Every room was large so no one got a raw deal with the bedrooms. There is loads of wardrobe and drawer space and the kitchen is so well equipped. Plenty of seating inside and the patio furniture was great for sitting out and having meals as the weather was beautiful. The children and adults alike enjoyed a few games if table tennis and darts. We enjoyed trips to the aquarium and park and ate out at the places the owners recomended. Its a great base for the lakes and spent a day in Keswick and visited Grasmere and Windermere.
