Special little cottage and location
Recently lovingly decorated and available to rent this cottage is a little delight. Loads of hot water in great bathroom. Cosy lounge and sweet kitchen with views over to the river. The friendly clucking of hens - and tasty fresh eggs from the owner. Good location for Hereford, Ross on Wye, Ludlow, Leominster , Kington, Ballingham and lots of other places visited including Goodrich Castle. Sunny little garden in the afternoon and evening.

Very enjoyable stay with good local walks and pubs
We received a very warm and friendly welcome from the owners who live next door. The cottage has been nicely refurbished with a modern bathroom and kitchen, and the log burner lights easily (with logs from the owner's log store). We enjoyed several walks in the area and there was plenty of hot water for a reviving bath or shower afterwards. We had an up to date OS map with us but found OS online on a mobile helpful as well when the route on the map was less obvious. There are two pubs/restaurant in Fownhope and a pub in Mordiford, and two more pubs in Woolhope not far away, so eating out is well catered for. There is a footpath to Fownhope that goes through the campsite and then through fields (with about 30 metres on the road) - it takes about 40 minutes to walk and we managed this in the dark on the way back with a torch, once we knew the route. You can also walk to Mordiford by footpaths (picking up the footpath after crossing the road across the field is a bit tricky on the map) and this takes about 40 minutes as well. We enjoy walking to the pub if we can! We also bought from the local shop and butcher in Fownhope and some cider from Westons. The chickens in the orchard were good fun to watch, and with no cockerels there are fresh eggs but no crowing. The balcony from the bedroom looks out over the Wye valley, and on the right you can see part of the campsite below you but it didn't bother us at all. We knew from the property description that the bed would be a standard double - ideally we prefer a 5ft kingsize bed. You can get wi-fi in the kitchen but not in the rest of the cottage; but the mobile signal was quite good. We also went to the theatre in Malvern and "pop up opera" in Longtown, and a visit to Hereford. Overall we had a really good holiday and were lucky having dry weather. The owners are very helpful but not intrusive at all.
