Relaxed tranquillity in the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds
We have just spent a very relaxing 3 days in Engine Room cottage. The location is excellent with views over the Yorkshire countryside to the back of the cottage and a short walk to the grounds and facilities (cafe, farm shop and home shop) of Sledmere House. The cottage itself is very comfortable, well equipped and the decor is to a very high standard. Catherine has added lots of little touches to follow the fire station theme and also to make the cottage feel homely. A lot of thought and care has been put into giving the cottage a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The open plan layout downstairs works really well and is spacious. The bedrooms upstairs follow in the same theme of comfort and spaciousness, and both have ensuite bathrooms. The downstairs bedroom is also comfortable and there is a downstairs bathroom with shower facilities. There is a ramp that leads from the car parking area to the door, making it a perfect place for a break with anyone who has access issues. There is plenty to explore in the surrounding area. We visited Beverley and Bridlington. We enjoyed our browse around Beverley Minster and found a lovely little Italian coffee shop not far from the Minster. The bracing walk along the sea front in Bridlington was great to blow the cobwebs away and the day was complete when we found a fab fish & chip shop overlooking the harbour. The countryside is stunning in that part of the world and there is a wealth of history to discover. We've only just scratched the surface and hope to make a return visit in the near future.

Engine room, fabulous cottage, great location
Catherine owner very helpful, nothing too much trouble, appreciated welcome pack on our arrival, especially treats provided for our little cockerpoo Rusty. Spacious accommodation with 3 en-suite bedrooms made for a very comfortable week, well equipped kitchen. Passes provided to visit Sledmere House a nice extra touch. Great location for walks, beach and towns to visit. Will definitely stay there again soon.

Fabulous place to stay in an amazing location
Wow, wow, wow. We've just spent an absolutely perfect week at the Engine Room Cottage in Sledmere. The cottage is very spacious, comfortable and clean with so many wonderful touches that give it a real home from home feeling and yet at the same time manage to bring the character of the fire station to life. The photographs on the website really do not do the cottage justice. The open design is great and the downstairs bathroom is very convenient (no pun intended). Catherine has thought of everything to make our stay fuss and worry free, and as chilled as possible. Fresh flowers and a welcome pack on arrival, beautiful scented diffusers, candles and every kitchen implement and utensil you could ever need or think of show just how hard Catherine has worked to make the cottage a wonderful place to stay. The attention to detail is outstanding. The location is idyllic and the only sound intruding on the peace and quiet is the baa-ing of the sheep in the fields behind. There is literally nothing for miles other than beautiful open countryside, fields, rolling hillsides and the most stunning views. The North Yorkshire coast is within easy reach (avoiding the busy main routes) and we visited Flamborough, Scarborough, Filey and Whitby whilst we were there - all under an hour's drive from the cottage. The country roads were very quiet toward the coast even though it was the height of summer but a good satnav is a must to navigate round the country roads. We also made use of park and ride in York and Whitby so there was no stress trying to find a parking spot. There is so much to see and do in the area that a week is nowhere near enough. The visitors handbook in the cottage is a great source of information on things to see and do around the area. We travelled on the North Yorkshire.Moors steam railway from Pickering to Whitby which was just fabulous. It's possible to hop on and off the train at the villages along the way including Goathland where Heartbeat and Harry Potter were filmed. The service is very popular so I would advise booking online in advance and on the day arrive early to get parked. The local farm shop does a fabulous full english breakfast and the local pub, The Triton Inn, does a great Sunday lunch with huge Yorkshire puds. We actually met the former fire station master in pub, in fact everyone we met in the pub were very friendly, salt of the earth locals who made us welcome. All in all this is a wonderful place to stay and use as a base to explore the East Riding and North Yorkshire coastline. The cottage is a very special place to stay and we loved being there. We will definitely return.

Fire Engine Cottage
Six of us (3 couples) have just enjoyed a wonderful week here. The cottage is beautifully situated with fabulous views across the fields. Sheep come right up to the boundary fence. The facilities are excellent and very clean. Large bedrooms with en-suites make for a very comfortable stay! We will definitely be back to stay again!! Oh and the food at the very nearby Triton Inn is excellent!

Outwardly charming and beautifully quirky on the inside. Set in the sedate and stately home village of Sledmere. You want for nothing as Engine Room has it all; Comfy beds, bleeting lambs, uninterrupted rear views of the rolling Yorkshire Wolds, stunning sunsets (which our host Catherine had thoughtfully positioned a table and chairs to take it all in.) There are 2 private parking spaces right alongside, so unloading was easy. The property is securely fenced so our little dog Scout was safe to wander. The cottage was immaculate. Things to do; there are free visitor passes to use for Sledmere House & Gardens, unfortunately the house was closed but the gardens were glorious. We drove to the coast daily which was within easy reach and enjoyed the beaches of Hunmanby Gap, Filey, Bridlington & Scarborough. But there was so much exploring to do locally that we will most certainly return.
