Lovely stay at Kirrin Cottage
We've just spent 5 nights at Kirrin Cottage and it was a lovely stay. Lovely modern cottage with all the essentials. The bed was really comfy, plenty of storage, a lovely clean bathroom and a really cosy living room downstairs with log burner. Hawkeshead is a 10 min walk and has a co-op, 4 pubs to choose from and plenty of cafes! This is a great central point for lots of walks and exploring the lake district. The only issue we had was drying walking boots! Clothes etc dried fine on the airer or tumble dryer, but obviously walking boots can't go in there and the fire and under floor heating weren't enough to dry our soaked boots! We couldn't adjust the radiators and they only came on when the temp dropped below 20 degrees which didn't happen often so it wasn't enough to dry them. That's my only downside though, the rest was perfect :) would 100% recommend for an escape to the Lake District.

?Warm cosy cottage in an ideal location?
We had a great weekend with the kids at Kirrin Cottage, they loved staying in a traditional cottage with a coal fire in the lounge and log burner in the kitchen. It was nice to stay in a traditional cottage with the benefit of underfloor heating and Wi-Fi. The underfloor heating came in handy for drying our clothes after our winter walks and they were dry in no time. The radiators in the bedrooms upstairs could be adjusted to our preferred setting which was great. In some cottages we have rented the bedroom radIators could not be adjusted which is not ideal. Kirrin Cottage is approx a 5 minute walk into Hawkshead and adjacent to the road leading up to Grizedale. The cottage was very clean and the rooms have been furnished and decorated well. It was great to have a private car parking space and not have to worry about parking. The bike store next to the private drive was ideal and we could off load the bikes straight into it when we arrived. We really enjoyed our stay and we would love to return.

The location is good and the bike storage was very handy, however we were disappointed with this cottage. We have stayed in much cheaper places that have given more (£520 granted it was half term). Having young children my views may be different from other review givers. The steps into the kitchen from outside were listed but not that they were so steep as is the staircase. When entering there was no welcome pack which we would expect- could have done with a tv manual as very difficult to figure out- luckily we weren?t planning on using it much, what are we supposed to do with recycling? (there were some leaflets in the lounge about the area). Found the floors downstairs to leave our children's feet black and lots of dust under chairs and on skirting boards. The bedrooms are a good size although walls to neighbouring cottage are paper thin. During our stay it snowed and hailed all week and we had a lot of wet clothes. There is nowhere to dry the clothes?! The only radiator downstairs is locked so you can?t turn it on, as is the temperature of the floor heating. The two radiators upstairs have stickers to say don't cover them. So I thought I?d use the washer/dryer with a few items - but it still leaves the clothes wet! So I had more clothes to dry (found a clothes horse in a cupboard and had to buy lots of wood to heat the room up). This is not how I want to spend my holiday- worrying about drying clothes for the next walk. On top of this there is no heating in the bathroom- not even a heated towel rail so not enjoyable to get out out of the shower/ bath for children into a cold room into soggy towels. I just can?t understand how no one has picked up on this. Although decorated well we didn?t find it at all practical and I am sorry to leave such negativity.

Lovely Cosy Cottage
The location is amazing with lots of walks on your doorstep. Hawkshead Village is only a five minute walk away which has four pubs to choose from which all do good food with a friendly atmosphere. There is a park 300 yards away which has tennis courts, basketball, football and play areas for the children. The Cottage is beautifully furnished and well equipped with underfloor heating on the ground floor. We really enjoyed relaxing in the reading room taking in the views and relaxing after our walks.BT Sports and a DVD player is available in the lounge. There are two good sized double bedrooms with lovely views across the fells. It was great to have a private car parking space and secure lockable shed to store the bikes. We really enjoyed our stay at Kirrin Cottage and will definitely return again.

Enjoyed every minute
Great cottage with fab views. Cottage was very clean and comfortable. It had everything we needed for a great holiday. Excellent location for travelling around the Lake District. Would definitely visit again.
