Poor access and zero contact with owner I booked this through Sykes for my 50th birthday, expecting a relaxing weekend away. We knew we would be arriving in the dark which we informed the owner of. I also wrote to the owners (twice) initially asking for a recommendation for somewhere to eat and then later after we spent two hours in the dark trying to find the cottage. I still have had no reply to either email! Clearly owners have their money and not interested in the people. I have never had zero contact from owners on any booking, shocking!
The postcode took us the wrong side of the river through closed and flooded lanes. Directions to the cottage told us to drive down farriers lane, take the left fork and turn right at the bottom of the road, there is no right turn, it the pub. But there is what looks like a footpath with a handrail, that's the road to the cottage! We had to fold our wing mirrors in and drive very very slowly for a mile and a quarter. There is no light pollution here so it is very dark. As there was flooding we could hear the river gushing inches away from our car, very scary and put me off driving the car for the rest of the weekend.
We arrived at the cottage which was in darkness, the key safe was close to the ground and with no outdoor lighting was tricky to open. The cottage itself was lovely but not worth the five and half hours it took us when it should have only took two, we are not that far away.
The whole experience made me feel ill, I was dreading driving back down the lane to go home. Will not be back and would not recommend. The pubs all do bed and breakfast and are dog friendly, we would have been better staying at one of those. Debbie H 2019-11-17
Beautiful cottage, great for the family. We spend a week at this wonderful cottage on the hills bordering the River Wye with our two young boys (aged 2 and 6). The cottage was very well presented and had everything we needed as a base for our week away. The communal gardens outside the cottage were beautifully maintained which was ideal for family picnics and the boys also had plenty of space to run around and play; during the week we stayed we pretty much had this space to ourselves. The cottage also had a private courtyard garden with BBQ which we found ideal for enjoying a glass of wine in the evenings. The cottage is in a great location for walks through the forest and along the river, followed by a quick stop-off at the pub before catching the hand boat back across the river back to the cottage. The only point to mention was the narrow road leading to the cottage, however once we had been out a few times it became second nature and was not really a problem (we drive a family sized estate), on the rare occasion we saw a car approaching from the other direction there was always enough visibility to find a place to pull over without having to reverse. A beautiful cottage in a beautiful part of the country. Richandbex 2018-09-20
Idyllic If you're looking for the perfect relaxing get away then this is the cottage for you.
The cottage itself is clean, well resourced and comfortable. It has a small courtyard at the back with a table and chairs and bbq. The shared gardens at the front of the property are beautifully well maintained and picturesque. The bedrooms are both a good size with built in wardrobes. Plenty of space for a family of 4/5 (with an air bed in the front bedroom).
The area itself is idyllic. A short walk to the lake and activity centre if you prefer something a little more active. Surrounded by woodland, there's plenty of places to walk and explore. There are several pubs within walking distance and market towns a short drive away.
Loved our stay here and we will definitely be back. Thank you. mp767 2018-05-20
