A jewel in Swaledale
Superbly appointed pet friendly 2 bedroomed former miner's cottages (2 joined together into 1) in the heart of Swaledale. The owners have thought of everything, so you'll find all you could possible need for a most enjoyable and comfortable stay is this lovely part of the world. We certainly did! Walks galore from the doorstep in every direction - up on to the moors above the village, or through the meadows and along the river, and up Gunnerside Gill to explore the area's lead mining industrial heritage (loads of walking maps and books available to help you choose what's right for you). Beautiful scenery in every direction. Lovely places to drive to and explore too, such as Hawes, Aysgarth Falls etc. Wonderful dog friendly pubs serving excellent well priced lunches and dinners in the vicinity (Farmers Arms in Muker gets a special mention). Not to mention the mobile chippy that comes by on Friday evenings. Excellent communications too from the owners who clearly take pride in ensuring their guests have a fabulous holiday. We loved it!

A beautiful hideaway in the Yorkshire Dales.
We have just returned from a lovely stay in this cottage in the lovely village of Gunnerside in the heart of Swaledale. What a fantastic place this is and so cosy and comfortable, tucked away up a small dead end road by a small sloping village green, this cottage offers peace and tranquility in bucket loads. The accommodation is spotless and well kept, a credit to the owners Jane and Kevin who frequently use the cottage themselves. They have tried to think of absolutely everything. hence it has everything you could think of, even little touches like torches for those late evening walks back from the fantastic local pub which is literally a few minutes easy walk down the road. It has a large TV in the lounge with a Freesat box attached, plus a DVD Player and a good selection of films if you fancy a cosy film night in. Excellent DAB radio in the kitchen with a lovely sound, just right for me as I am a bit of an audio buff. The bed is so comfortable, it was a job to rouse ourselves after such a lovely undisturbed sleep as having no passing traffic makes so much difference. If you are into serious hill walking, this is the place for you as there are countless walks and trails in the area. Masses of information, guides and maps are supplied in the cottage courtesy of the owners, one very nice touch is there were some parking discs you could use for two hours in disc parking zones in surrounding towns. If you are not extreme walkers, and we are not, there is plenty to keep you occupied all within short driving distances from Gunnerside. There are spectacular drives over the hills around here and driving The Buttertubs Pass over to Hawes is brilliant! If you are a nervous driver, you may find some of these tiny, windy very very steep hills a bit of a challenge with many steep completely blind summits and bends to negotiate, all on single track roads in places with limited passing places. But that is the Yorkshire Dales for you, and you certainly will not be disappointed with the scenery. If you fancy travelling a little further afield, the Beamish Heritage Museum is only an hour and a half drive away and really well worth a visit. The towns of Richmond and Leyburn are nearby with some lovely tea shops and places to look round. To sum up, if you are looking for a lovely quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you will not go far wrong with this charming cottage and all it has to offer.

lovely cottage, perfect location
We found Hillways clean, comfortable, warm and surprisingly well equipped, with exceptionally good beds. The view from the small, South-facing front garden is stunning. Glorious walks in all directions without needing the car. Gunnerside village pub serves good food, and we particularly enjoyed joining in the quiz night (alternate Sunday evenings), where the locals made us feel very welcome.

A terrific base for my course and break away
This cottage was exceptionally well equipped and presented. The communication with the owner prior to my visit was informative and very helpful thank you so much.
I loved the views from the windows and it was a joy to wake to that in the morning.
The owners have put a great deal of thought in to making sure the cottage has all the necessary comforts to make a stay in it a pleasure. Excellent beds and linens all fresh and comfortable.
The village has great walks and the bonus of a pub which is friendly and serves good food.
