Romantic getaway
We booked a last minute break to the Heronry through Sykes Cottages and we were not disappointed. The property is in such a peaceful scenic location which is ideal for trips to the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall and close to the Scottish Border. We loved the freestanding bath and the hot tub. It has everything that you need and the free bottle of Prosecco was a nice extra. The property owners were welcoming and there to help if you needed anything. If you're looking for a peaceful, romantic break then I highly recommend!

Completely amazing
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Heronry on the first weekend after lockdown eased and it was simply amazing. From the moment we arrived, Trevor and Danielle were welcoming and friendly and explained all the updated measures that had been taken in light of covid. The place was immaculately clean. It is decorated and furnished to an extremely high standard, the bed is soo comfortable that we didn?t want to get out of it and we spent a good few hours in the hot tub enjoying the view! There was a welcome prosecco on arrival which was swiftly demolished and some lovely brownies too. The bathroom is just breathtaking and the kitchen has everything you need. Trevor and Danielle were always on hand to answer any questions. We visited Keswick, Gretna Green and the local pub (Graham Arms) for a drink, which were all driving distance. We had the best time there, we came away so relaxed and refreshed and we are desperate to go back - however unsurprisingly it is booked up until next year! Thank you again for a wonderful stay, we would both highly recommend visiting the Heronry.

Beautiful.
Our stay at The Heronry has been bliss. We can't recommend this cottage enough! We've had such an amazing 5 nights here. We love it and quite honestly... We don't want to go home.
The family who run the cottage are genuinely lovely. The proeprly itself is perfect. Clean, spacious, private and the view over the beck, especially in the hot tub is awesome. Can't beat it. Jumping in the hot bath in the morning, looking over the beck is also quite awspiring.
At this time of year, we've spotted the heron fly along the beck at approx 8:30am, whilst sat in the hot tub.
Up until now we have spent most of our holidays at Kielder Waterside, and The Heronry beats Kielder, by a mile. So we will be booking again, in advance. Without a doubt.
The location of the cottage is also very convenient. It's close to Kielder, Lake District and Solway Coast. There's local shops, a couple of miles away, among take aways and cafes, easily accessible by car. However there's a cracking Indians who deliver for free.
I could rant on about how amazing our time here has been. Thank you. Its exactly what we've needed.
We will be back!
P.s. We've left some doggy treats at the door!
See you soon! Xx

Fantastic!
Wow! We loved our stay here, convenient to get to, lovely owners who made us fell very welcome, nothing was too much trouble for them. Very private hot tub which was located just outside the bedroom door. The views out of the huge windows are just stunning, it makes it feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Great facilities and very clean throughout. We will be back again some time soon.
