Dyfed Self Catering cottage, Llysgwaun, Fishguard, sleeps 8

A great sized house in an idyllic setting but with issues.
This house is in a beautiful setting in a quiet hamlet. It is not too far from grocery shops etc for convenience. The roads around are very windy & often steep but very picturesque! The house is an excellent size & attractive with lovely views. There was an excellent selection of books & cds however there was a general air of grubbiness in the main reception room. On entering there was a definite musty & possibly smoky smell with a very dirty wooden floor & edges of doors. The cupboard under the sink contained a mangled & dirty metal scourer on a very mucky shelf. There was a collection of containers each with a tiny amount of washing up liquid & also almost empty soap dispensers. There was a stock of dishwasher tablets (not ones recommended by the owners) but no soap for the washing machine. Under the present circumstances & in your literature you highlight that we should leave extra time for cleaning to be done, which we did, we were not impressed. Shortly after we arrived (well after the required time) a maintenance guy appeared to empty the bins. The organisation of the kitchen area makes using it problematic! The needed ?work triangle? is more non existent! Making a cup of coffee will push your step count through the roof let alone making a meal! There was a very dirty frying pan with pans & a used coffee filter in the coffee machine. One of the sofa throws had a large dirty mark on it & we stuck it immediately in the washing machine using the last remaining washing up liquid, the only cleaning product available. (Stain did come off)Drying it was then an issue as, other than the pulley directly above the cooker, there were no really useable drying facilities. As this was a house taking 8 people this was insufficient. The cooker had a grill setting but no grill pan! There was no waste bin for the kitchen area. There were plenty of cooking utensils barring a very necessary fish slice. A single bath towel per person with no hand towels is also insufficient. There was no hanging space for clothes or mirrors in any of the bedrooms. The garden was unkempt & unsecured for small children or pets. The top part of the garden was pretty much inaccessible & completely overgrown. There was no bbq as advertised but plenty of brambles! We have stayed in many different cottages & villas over many years and this is the first time we have felt it necessary to complain about a house that we have rented. It seems a shame to have a beautiful house let down by very poor maintenance and thought.
