Alternatively enjoy a scenic train ride into Stockport where you will be amazed by a visit to the underground tunnels built as air raid shelters during World War Two a perfect outing for a rainy day! Buxton itself presents plenty of opportunities the Pavilion Gardens regularly hosting antiques fairs craft fairs book and toy fairs and Pooles Cavern is a short walk from the centre of town. Buxton Opera House an Edwardian gem has a varied programme of entertainment throughout the year and every July hosts the Buxton International Festival.
