Nestled in the heart of the Cranborne Chase, The Old Forge is the perfect retreat for those looking to appreciate the slower pace of life. The 18th Century former Carriage and Wheelwrights workshops have been transformed to create a charming Bed and Breakfast and a self-catering cottage with unique appeal. Constantly evolving recent years have seen the introduction of Sam and Mabel the Shepherd's Huts and Rosie the 1934 Gypsy Caravan embracing the 'Glamping' revolution.
We are retiring from running our award winning Bed & Breakfast after 30 years! We are now self catering only in our two cottages The Wheelwrights (available soon) the Smithy and Glamping. Bookings for Bed & Breakfast will only be available until the end of October 2018. Tim and Lucy along with their daughter Sophie share their home with three dogs a cat two horses one donkey and ten chickens! Pudding and Pie are both miniature Labaradoodles a Westie called Bonnie and a very fluffy cat called Nala.
Sam Rosie and Mabel are kept company in the adjacent paddock by Scrumpy Jack the Donkey Jasmine the Arabian and her young mare Lily. The chickens are free range in every sense of the word and never far from sight. Tim and Lucy's passion for all things vintage is evident from the moment that you open the car door.
In the yard old enamel signs and petrol pumps set the scene of a bygone era and the theme continues inside with a wood burning stove retro radios wonderful dolls houses and original fellows as remnants of the wheelwrights workshop displayed on the walls. Lucy's organic Aga cooked breakfast has been "Taste of the West" gold awarded. Sit down to Dorset muesli seasonal fruit and Yeo Valley yoghurt followed by a mouth watering menu of locally sourced ingredients; freshly baked bread the eggs collected from the nesting box in the morning the apple juice pressed from the orchard the sausages and bacon from the traditional butcher in Shaftesbury, Dorset mushrooms and garden vine tomatoes (when booking the Glamping and the Smithy breakfast in the house is optional at just GBP 10 each booking in advance).
We also have two charming shepherds huts and a gypsy caravan. They are situated in our paddock of free range chickens horses and a donkey. Fo
