This impressive stone building was built in the early to mid 1800s where the landlady would provide the ale and supper while the landlord would shoe horses and serve as the blacksmith around the rear of the establishment which now is the Accommodation & Courtyard. This country inn has had its fair share of landlords in the past - your current hosts Francis & Linda Wood who have owned the Cross Swords Inn since 1991 are the latest in a long line of hospitable landlords stretching back to Edward Herring in the 1800's.
With a fine selection of good food ranging from Ala carte to country inn food. To complement the food a good selection of ales spirits and wines are available. Our accommodation is settled in the Courtyard come car park within the grounds of the Inn and comprise of three well-designed comfortable en-suite twin-bed roomed cottages.
This makes the Cross Swords Inn an ideal place meet eat and to stay. The Cross Swords Inn is located in the historical village of Skillington which dates back to the Domesday Book. The whole area is full of interesting features of Stately Homes Burghley House, Grimsthorpe Castle & Belvoir Castle to name but a few.
If you are a golf enthusiast or just like to walk the setting is perfect for a relaxed stay in a forgotten part of Lincolnshire just off the Viking Way. For the more energetic just 5 minutes from The Cross Swords Inn is Buckminster Gliding Club where you can buy trial flights. Please note we do not have the facilities to accept babies and children under 10 years of age and we do not accept pets.
