Another look at The Sugarloaf. You can see how the shape might well resemble a church spire from a distance. The folly was said to have been built by Mad Jack Fuller after he lost a bet that he could see the spire of a nearby church from his window. When this proved impossible he built this folly where the church spire 'ought' to have been seen!
