A beautifully restored 18th century garden, stretching to 2 acres in size. The garden area is sheltered by beech and oak woods on three sides, and on the other open out towards to Tyne valley, affording lovely views. This was originally the garden for Chesters House, but it has been replanted as an herb and herbaceous garden. There are a wonderful variety of plantings, including the National Thyme Collection and the National Collection of Marjoram.

A section of the garden is planted with varieties known to have been used by the Romans when they occupied Britain, including culinary herbs, medicinal, and sacred plants. There is also a knot garden planted to an authentic design of 1617. Other features include a Thyme Bank, Pool Garden, and themed borders.

The garden is located immediately beside the old Roman fort of Chesters, and a Roman road runs right through the garden. It is a lovely spot, and well worth a stop.
