The Story Behind the Image - Pollachar Standing Stone, South Uist
One of the most memorable photography trips in my life was a wonderful two weeks I spent on South Uist, in the gorgeous Western Isles of Scotland.
The Western Isles are full of ancient sites, but none are easier to reach than the prehistoric standing stone at Pollachar, at the southernmost tip of South Uist.
The ancient stone stands at the end of the road in Pollachar immediately beside the Pollachar Inn. What I remember most about taking this photo was that the inn's resident cat decided that I was a very interesting person and ought to be spending my time petting it rather than photographing the standing stone.
The cat kept rubbing itself against my tripod legs, purring insatiably the whole time. I feel lucky to have gotten any photos without a cat in the scene!
