Scottish Highlands - Ardnamurchan

The Story Behind the Images - Ardnamurchan

The Ardnamurchan Peninsula is perhaps one of the Scottish Highland's least visited areas - except by photographers who appreciate its stunning beauty!

The Ardnamurchan is bounded on the south by Loch Sunart and on the north by Moidart. In between is a wonderfully scenic area of coast and forest.

If you follow the peninsula to its western extremity you come to Ardnamurchan Point, the most westerly point on the British mainland. On the Point is a historic lighthouse built by the famous Stephenson family of engineers (one Stephenson who turned his hand to literature is the author Robert Louis Stephenson).

I spent several VERY early mornings at the Camus Torsa picnic area near Salen, photographing the sunrise over Loch Sunart. What an incredible location!

Along the coast is Glenborrowdale, with a wonderful nature reserve, while just north of the peninsula a road leads to lIttle Loch Broom where you will find Castle Tioram, built on an island in the loch and only accessible at low tide.
