OUR VIEW
The Bayswater district of London borders on the northern edges of Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, and stretches northwards until it meets Praed Street and Paddington Station. Bayswater is roughly contained by Edgware Road to the east and by Pembridge Road to the west. The area north of Hyde Park was originally known as Tyburnia, a reference to the old Tyburn gallows which once stood at the north east corner of the park.
Bayswater was developed in the early 19th century in imitation of elegant Marylebone and Mayfair, with several large garden squares and elegant terraces. Many of the Regency houses around Sussex Gardens have been converted to hotels, but to the west the area of small streets around Craven Hill still have some attractive older houses and a quieter, neighbourhood feel.
