Gorgeous cottage !
Just returned from a week here... absolutely loved every minute of it ! Upon arrival was greeted by sally the owner.. given a tour of the cottage by the lovely cleaner. It was spotlessly clean, and the cottage itself had everything you needed and more.. very animal friendly place.. even throw overs provided for the sofas for the dogs.! Dogs on leads obviously in the front yard and near the horses but that's to be expected... once past the owners dogs and horses we had 110+ acres of farmland to explore.! The kids throughly enjoyed the holiday too! Lots of exploring to be done so wellies on and off we went! we visited Jedburgh castle + jail and Mary queen of Scots house. Also keilder water and lake is a must.. local pubs and restaurants Bailey mill just up the road and about 20 minutes away is "the grapes" serves amazing food! (Highly recommend the steak pie! Thank you to sally + Tommy we will definitely return!

Will Come Again
We had a really relaxing weekend at Lapwing cottage. The owner made us feel very welcome indeed and we will definitely stay here again due to its location (close to family) plus being a very quiet location which suits our dog. Beautiful countryside on the doorstep too.

Cute cottage - lots of faults - uncaring owner
Arrived on 24th to what was advertised as an arable farm. This was important to our booking as we have 2 dogs. Disturbed to find owner kept horses on the farm. Fridge didn't work, though owner blamed us. We found it not working immediately and helped the owner carry it out and water poured out of it. Grill didn't work and only 2 burners worked, kettle worked sporadically. Told by owner dogs could run free as everything was fenced in. Our dog escaped the house into the yard only to find a farm gate we knew nothing about and which was so high she just walked straight under it. Horrified to discover the field held about 6 horses. One horse spotted the dog who was running around the grass and galloped towards her. Our little dog was stomped on while the other horses surrounded her. She was trying to run away from the horses but they outrun her. I cannot get over the sight of my little dogs body bouncing under the horses hooves. Owner was only concerned that we had put her in the bath to get the manure and mud off her to see if her skin was broke. Our dog was in shock but owner has said we should have used a hosepipe to clean her. Absolutely no concern by the owners while I am now on sedatives as I can't get that scene out of my head. Sykes holiday says they are not responsible for any safety issues, owner won't even consider giving us a partial refund so we had half a break and a injured dog and vet bill. We would never recommend this place to people with small children as they could easily gain access to the paddocks. Owner also had 2 collies who poohed all over the yard, twice on our doorstep and the owner never cleaned it up.

The people were very friendly and it was a great escape from the rat race. It was great to be able to go for walks and not hear a car or anything - the peace and quiet was priceless.

The cottage was very clean and well equipped, everything we needed was there. We loved that the place is dog friendly, so did our dogs! Owners of cottage are very friendly and approachable.
