Abbeys and Monasteries in Gloucestershire
Despite a multitude of other attractions, Gloucestershire is a bit
thin on medieval monastic remains. The only monastery really worthy
of a trip is:
Hailes Abbey
Near Winchecombe, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, off B4632, National
Trust, Tel. 01242 602398
The ruins of a Cistercian abbey, founded in 1246, grace this lovely
wooded site. Hailes was an important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages.
There is a small museum.
