There was a church at Ashperton as early as the 13th century, but that earlier building was replaced by the current church in the 14th century. The benefactor of the church was Sibilla de Grandison, who lived in the castle (now vanished) a short distance from the churchyard.

St Barnabas is remarkable in that it was one of only 6 churches built during the Commonwealth, that period between the death of Charles I and the Restoration of the Monarchy under Charles II. The church was constructed in 1656 to replace a medieval church destroyed during the 1643 siege of Bampton Bryan castle. It is Puritan in style, very different from most medieval churches in the area.

An intriguing country church in a beautiful setting above the River Wye. The oldest parts of the church date to the late Saxon period. The chancel was rebuilt in the early 15th century following a raid by Owain Glendower and his Welsh followers.

The church of St George at Brinsop was included in Simon Jenkin's popular book, 'England's Thousand Best Churches'. One of the main reasons for that inclusion is the wonderful Norman carving, thought to be the work of the Herefordshire School of craftsmen (see Kilpeck and Shobdon churches).

The first church at Bromyard was established sometime around 840 AD as a Saxon minster. Nothing remains of that Saxon building, which was replaced in the 12th century with the current cruciform building. The south door is worth noting for its carved figure of St Peter. Recent investigation suggests that the figure may be of Saxon origin, and was reused when the 12th century was built.

The parish church of St Michael in the little Herefordshire village of Castle Frome is an early 12th century building. It was very probably founded by the de Lacy family, Norman nobility who owned large estates in this area of Herefordshire, and whose name lives on in nearby locations like Hampton Lacy.

It seems likely that there was a church at Cradley at the time of the Domesday Book; we can't be certain, for the Domesday record speaks of a priest, but does not specifically mention a church. Be that as it may, it seems clear that there was a place of worship here in the Saxon period, for incorporated into the north wall of the tower is a Saxon stone which may have served as a 'becun', or marker to designate a gathering place for worship by Saxon misionary priets.
