Cardoness Castle stands on a hill overlooking the Water of Fleet, on the southern shore of Dumfries and Galloway, near Gatehouse of Fleet. The castle (more properly a fortified manor house) dates to the 15th century, and is in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.
