Kenilworth Castle

Kenilworth Castle was built in 1120, and greatly enlarged and extended by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, who famously entertained Elizabeth I here in 1575. Perhaps the best feature of the extensive remains is John of Gaunt's great hall, which at one time had the widest roof span of any building in England.
