Braemar Castle photo, Braemar Castle

Braemar Castle is a lovely fortified house on the eastern outskirts of Braemar, home of the annual Highland games. It was built in 1628 by the Earl of Mar, on the site of a much earlier fortification. It has been the home of the Farquharsons of Invercauld for centuries, though the castle is now operated by a local charity.
