Orkney Photos
The Tomb of the Eagles is one of our favourite sites on Orkney; the ceiling is a modern reconstruction, but the corbelled walls are original
The entrance to Unstan Cairn; Unstan is often overshadowed by its neighbours at Maes Howe and Brodgar, but it is an excellent chambered cairn in good repaoir, well worth a visit
Here you can see the layered 'wedding cake' style of the cairn. Entry is not through the opening in the photo, but through a hatch on the roof.
The setting sun casts lovely golden light over the rocks at Yesnaby - one of the real beauty spots on Orkney Mainland
The cliffs at Yesnaby. A path leads along the cliffs from a parking area near an old WWII station
The sun setting beyond Castle Rock, a lovely old seastack with a hole right through the centre
A natural arch at Yesnaby
Medieval St Magnus Cathedral, located in the centre of Kirkwall
Traceried tower window of St Magnus Cathedral
A lovely old medieval iron strapwork hinge on the west door of St Magnus Cathedral
Late afternoon on the Brough of Birsay Norse settlement site
This old whalebone is a local landmark on the cliffs above Skiba Geo
