Bachuil Country House is a typical Scottish Country House of the 18th/19th Century and now offers AA 4 Star Guest Accommodation for up to six guests in three comfortable en-suite rooms. The Isle of Lismore is the most easterly island of the Southern Hebrides and notably fertile. The island is famous for its abundance of wild flowers (some say nearly 300 different types of plant) and bird life with about 130 species of birds (including visiting golden eagles buzzards herons and skylarks).
The views from the island across the water to the mountains of Argyll Ardnamurchan and Mull are quite outstanding. Hamish Haswell-Smith in his best selling guide to Scottish Islands writes ?For delightful walking country LISMORE is supreme?. He describes a walk at the south end as ?one of the finest walks in Scotland and views that are unequalled anywhere? Lismore is situated a few miles north of Oban which is about 2 hours by car from Glasgow or 3 hours from Edinburgh.
Around 10 miles long and one mile wide it is easily accessible by a 45 minute car ferry from Oban (NB THERE IS NO FUEL AVAILABLE ON LISMORE) or 10 minute crossing on the passenger ferry from Port Appin. Visitors to Lismore come largely to walk or cycle and enjoy the tranquillity of this blessed island. Others come to visit our ancient historical sites including Bronze Age Cairns Iron Age Duns and two of the oldest Medieval Stone Castles.
Our award winning Heritage Museum and replica 19th century Cottar?s Cottage fully restored is very popular with its small cafe not far from our shop and post office. Bachuil is the home of the Barons of Bachuil Coarbs of St Moluag Abbots of Lismore and Chiefs of Clan Maclea who have lived here since St Moluag arrived in 562. Niall and Anita the present Baron and Baroness really look forward to seeing you.
