Niton, Isle of Wight

The Story Behind the Image - Thatched Cottage, Niton, Isle of Wight

Niton is a small village on the south coast of the Isle of Wight between Chale and Ventnor. A mile away on Niton Down is St Catherine's Oratory (aka The Pepperpot), a medieval oratory, beacon, and lookout point. The source of the River Yar can be found on the western edge of the village.

I came to Niton during a wonderful week exploring the Isle of Wight from a base at Freshwater Bay. We drove to Ventnor where we explored the Botanic Gardens and were driving back along the coast when we decided to stop and explore Niton village.

By sheer good fortune, we came across this lovely thatched cottage near the village church.
