The twin villages of East and West Looe stand on either side of a narrow estuary, joined by a seven-arched stone bridge. Looe is one of the most popular visitor destinations in south Cornwall - very much a traditional Cornish fishing port, Looe has a marvellous array of seafood restaurants by the harbour and all the trappings of a modern family holiday area. There are sandy beaches to play on, and pleasure boating to enjoy. Just offshore is St George's Island, used by smugglers to unload their goods in secret.
