Above the port of Penzance stands the ruins of a large Iron Age hill fort known as Lescudjack Castle. Lescudjack covers nearly 3 acres in area, making it one of the largest Iron Age structures in Cornwall. It was inhabited from about 300 BC to 100 AD. The name derives from old Cornish and roughly translates as 'shielded enclosure'. Local History
