In this case the abbey isn't just dedicated to St. Augustine, it was
actually founded by him, in 598, to house the monks he brought with
him to convert the Britons to Christianity. This makes St Augustines
Abbey one of the oldest monastic sites in the UK. The Abbey is part
of the Canterbury World Heritage Site, and a small museum on the site
displays objects found during excavations. The Abbey is located just
a few minutes walk away from Canterbury Catyhedral.
