A cosy farmhouse annexe, adjoining the owner's property, in open countryside, just 1.5 miles from Stamford Bridge and can sleep two people in one bedroom.

Beech Cottage is a cosy farmhouse annexe, adjoining the owner's property, in open countryside, just 1.5 miles from Stamford Bridge and can sleep two people in one bedroom. The cottage has a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom (accessed via steep cottage stairs), and an open plan living area with a kitchen, a dining area and a sitting area with a woodburner. Outside there is off road parking for two cars, bike storage and a rear patio and lawn on the other side of the farm track with furniture. Beech Cottage is a lovely holiday base, in a wonderful area.

We really enjoyed the holiday - the cottage was perfect for both us and our dog. It was comforting to know that the friendly owners lived next door but at no point did we feel imposed upon; we were left alone to enjoy the week. The walks around the local area were fantastic!

My partner and I stayed here over Easter 2015 and loved every minute. It was a lovely relaxing break that fully catered for us and our dog. The owners were laid back but helpful. They were not invasive whatsoever and left us to enjoy our stay, but always knowing they were there if we needed them. We absolutely adored the d?cor of the place, a very quaint characteristic little cottage theme. The bedroom in particular had a very cottagey feel. We particularly loved the the log burner, and so did the dog! The grounds are very well kept and are very welcoming. It is quite rural, so a car is definitely needed, but the cottage is in a perfect location for exploring York. We also did a day trip to Whitby which was perfect in the April sun. Overall, a very enjoyable stay and we have already recommended to our friends and family. Thank you.

The cottage was excellent. It was everything we needed; it was cosy and comfortable, beautifully warm and a pleasure to stay in. The owners were very helpful and friendly. It was in a beautiful rural location, we just loved being there, we had no complaints whatsoever.

Would not stay here again
There are some very good points about this cottage, but to be honest, the negatives outweigh the positives for us, we would not stay here again. The farm owner?s dogs made us uncomfortable for our whole stay. When we first arrived, they were in a wood slat fenced in area you have to walk close to in order to go the door of the cottage, which is an annexe to the farmhouse. The dogs were fairly aggressive, lunging and growling at us through the fence. The owners were away for the first half of our stay, but we did let their uncle (a very nice man) know about the situation, and he put the dogs in the house. The owners returned 2 days before we left and they let the dogs out a couple of times while we were there, so we had to be on the lookout, as the dogs would run at us, if we were leaving the house or outside at the time. The owners never introduced themselves to us, which has never happened to us in the past, when we have rented other cottages. Would have been nice to have been asked about our stay, perhaps would have put our mind at ease about the dogs. While we can appreciate this is a working farm and dogs are useful for security, if you?re operating a self catering cottage, you do need to look at for your guests? safety, you can?t have it both ways. The cottage is in a lovely location and you can tell it was built to a high standard, but needs some overall TLC and attention to detail. Bedroom: The mattress is completely worn out, as bad as the worst pull-out sofa bed quality, we got very little sleep as a result. There is black mould along the top of one wall and on the top part of one of the window covers. Otherwise, really nice furnishings, bathroom is lovely, with a nice separate bath and power shower. Lounge/Kitchen (open plan room): Sofa is worn, should be replaced. Kitchen is nice, but missing a few self-catering essentials, such as a toaster! There was a pan provide to grill your toast in the oven, but no oven gloves were supplied.

Services / Facilities:

Eco heating with underfloor heating downstairs and woodburner. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, use of washing machine on request, TV with Freeview, DVD, radio, iPod dock, WiFi.
