Awful and small
We wanted a nice relaxing time in the lake district. But instead we had a stressful start to our holiday. We arrived late at night and had to pick up the keys from the office in Windermere. Which is a pain and difficult to park. Luckily we checked before hand we had to pick the key's up. Otherwise we wouldn't of known. Also we didn't realise that towels were not included. ?4 extra per person. It doesn't state on the website that you need to bring your own towels. We have stayed in many self catering accommodation and they usually provide towels. But we know now in future never to assume. We arrived at the property which was hard to find the parking space as the numbers are painted in black and are difficult to see in the dark. Inside the property we were greeted with an old bag of cleaning products, left in the middle if the room. The room was dusty and we found hairs on the bed and the bedside light didn't work. So my partner moved the bed to see what the problem was only to find a condom wrapper on the floor! Really didn't want to stay! But we did as it was so late and had been stuck in a car for 9 hours. We called Cumbria Cottages the next morning and they did come with towels. Which they still charged us for. Removed the condom, changed the sheets and cleaned the room and apologised. But I will not be staying there again. The crazy thing is, why supply tea towels?! and not towels! The apartment had no personal touches. Or space to put your belongings away. Was dirty and disappointing and didn't look like it in the photos. To be honest we left more tired than we arrived and the bed was uncomfortable.

Great stay in Bowness on Windermere
We stayed at the stable nest for the first time in December. We love Bowness on Windermere in the Lake district so were looking for somewhere to stay close to all the bars and restaurants as some holiday cottages in the lakes are a bit remote for us. The Stable Nest is on the top of the hill in Bowness with Beresfords, an Indian, a Pub, an Italian and a Chinese all less than a minute away so it ticked that box for us and we ate out quite a few times. It is a small studio apartment but had everything we needed and the location is great. It would be too small for a family but is ideal for couples. It was clean and cosy with a comfy bed and a modern kitchen. There is parking included which is a bonus and a bus stop very close if you want to leave your car behind. There are so many places to see on foot around Bowness and Windermere too. There was also free Wifi which proved handy in the apartment.

Location ideal for our needs - shops, cinema, restaurants and public transport.

We had a really good week at Stables Nest. The location was great and the flat provided everything we needed. On day two the toaster was not working, and when I reported this to your local office, someone brought round a brand new toaster, which impressed us. The only problem we had was the access road to the main road, which needs to be repaired, probably something the council have to do, as it caused us constant concern re the exhaust of the car, but fortunately managed without any problems. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay, and we will certainly recommend you!

The location of the property was excellent. You could walk to local restaurants and shops and you were spoilt for choice with surrounding National Trust properties.
