Great Family Getaway
We had a great weekend away with the family (8 adults and 2 pre-teen children). There was plenty of space due to the very grand proportions of every room and the rooms were beautifully decorated, although the furniture was not expensive enough to make you feel uncomfortable. The kitchen was large and well-equipped with enough pots and pans to cook Sunday lunch for 10 on the Aga (a challenge taken up by my sister-in-law, thankfully!). We could just about sit 10 around the kitchen table. Despite its size, I found the house warm and cosy, and we experienced no issues with the shower or water supply, although I agree the bathrooms are a bit dated. My bed was comfortable with lovely white cotton bedding. Pool table, Sky TV and piano kept everyone entertained, and there were plenty of books on various bookshelves which I would have loved to to have read, had we been staying for longer. The area is very picturesque, with plenty to do. On Saturday we went to Skipton, where the shops and castle were worth a visit, and on Sunday we walked around nearby Malham Tarn. The house was also about 30 mins from Ribbleshead Viaduct (starting point to climb Whernside), and 20 mins from Horton-in-Ribblesdale (to climb Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent). The nearest takeaways were in Settle (3km away), with a selection of Fish and Chips, Chinese and Indian.

Mearbeck Cottage is great to relax in, with the large lounge and real fire. Overall a great place to stay

What a fabulous house to stay in. It is a beautiful old house that feels very homely, with plenty of space for large parties! The description and photos do not do the property justice.

very spacious
12 of us rented this property (4 kids). Down stairs is a great space kitchen is excellent with its big aga and dinning table. Living room with open fire is lovely with full sky package. Second sitting room is smaller with piano never really used this room. Mini games room with pool table which is always a bonus. Main staircase leads to the landing which the kids loved as it was massive to play on. Attic bedroom was lovely. The other bedrooms where all very big and spacious. The bathrooms are very dated. Major problem with this place is only one shower in the master bedroom which you can not use or you will burn yourself. The mixer side of the plumbing is rubbish. Also if you use to much water you will run out as its on a bore hole and takes time to refill. Could do with some extra storage tanks. Can easily park 5 cars. Trampoline outside is real good fun but be careful with kids no side on it but seeing as its 15ft should be no problem. We all had a good catch up so it served its purpose for us. Very friendly owners.

The house was fantastic, extremely well maintained and clean. Wonderfully spacious and we are definitely considering a return visit. We had a brilliant holiday! The area is unspoilt with so many beautiful places to see and great walking/climbing in the area.
