A delightful, stone-built, detached cottage over 300 years old. located on the banks of the River Ribble in the quiet hamlet of Helwith Bridge just four miles north of Settle in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park..
Pen-y-Ghent is nearby and can be approached by a track from Helwith Bridge. This cosy Three Peaks cottage provides a warm, centrally heated welcome. It comprises an attractive sitting room with open fire, old beams, and juliette balcony overlooking the river with the Settle Carlisle railway beyond.
Two double bedrooms overlook the river, the second being charmingly typical of a small cottage with limited headroom. The bathroom has a proper bath with shower over and a galley kitchen providing all you need for a self-catering holiday. A fabulous location where you can enjoy the many sights and sounds of the river and view the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway line beyond, from the feature Juliet balcony that literally hangs over the river or from your bedroom window.
Sightings of kingfishers and otters are often reported but cannot be guaranteed! Helwith Bridge is situated in the heart of the famous Three Peaks area of the Yorkshire Dales, and the welcoming Helwith Bridge Inn is adjacent to Riverside cottage. The surrounding countryside is magnificent with numerous walks of all calibre from the doorstep. The ideal location for fell walking and mountain biking with the famous Three Peaks providing some of the most challenging walks in the country.
Fly fishing, caving, walking and rambling are all in easy access to Riverside Cottage. To the North the Settle-to-Carlisle Railway crosses the famous Ribblehead viaduct, a magnificent piece of railway history completed in 1870. The structure is not to be missed and the sight of a steam train crossing is unforgettable.
The Helwith Bridge Fly Fishery, a 4.5 acre, 30ft deep lake, offers a peaceful spot for keen fishermen just across the road from the cottage. Nearby Austwick has a wonderful village shop and an award-winning inn, whilst the village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale contains a lovely Norman church and two pubs.
The nearby market town of Settle, just four miles down the road, offers a wide variety of pubs and restaurants. A gentle 2.5 mile riverside walk gets you to the Horton Cafe, famous amongst walkers as the place to register your departure and return when completing the 3 Peaks Walk.
Elaine's Cafe at Feizor is a similar distance though slightly hillier and also offers excellent food. Other local attractions such as Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, Clapham Cave and Gaping Ghyll are within easy reach, as are the nearby Dales towns of Skipton and Malham and the delightful villages of Ingleton and Hawes. A welcoming coal fire is set for arrivals and coal and kindling are provided at cost (payment by honesty box).
