Worst place I have stayed in the UK
They really need to remove this off the market. They took our deposit and made ruined two birthdays. I really hope your happy.

'Unbelievably ill mannered, Intrusive and irreverent'
After much deliberation, my party and I decided to have our well earned quarterly year city escape in the region of Suffolk this Autumn. Being veterans of the great outdoors, we were quite looking forward to our stay at the Byre, unfortunately, the same could not be said for the owners. When contacting the owners regarding a suitable time to arrive at the property, we were informed we would not be allowed at the premises until after 4pm but no later than 8pm as the previous visitors had 'flooded the bathroom'. We arrived just before 8pm that evening and on first impressions, we were surprised at how the cottage was literally in the back garden of the advertised cottage! We approached the owner, who walked straight past us and 'told' us to follow him into the house, to which he started ranting on about how there were no stag parties allowed on the property or all male groups, (we were a group of four friends). To our amazement, we swiftly denied being a 'stag' party and informed the owner that even though we were an all male party, his assumptions/first impressions/stereotype of us had no substance and the policy did not state all male parties were not permitted, in a polite manner. After a further discussion which involved us explaining we were all professionals and our purpose of the short stay was to explore our surroundings (all said in the fear of being turned away and back down the motorway for a long three hour drive), we were 'allowed' to stay. This was then followed by the owner going through procedures and policies of the cottage, at each stage referring to previous visitors and how they did not 'listen' carefully to his instructions/rules/regulations (this ranged from a chef from Hong Kong to a 'chap and his wife' from Essex), something which personally left bad taste in my mouth, the term unnecessary cheap shots came to mind at the time. The local areas were great which was a positive as luckily, we didnt require the non existent wifi in the cottage or the 'digital' television channels which were more scrambled than my eggs that weekend! Where the cottage became a real life nightmare was when we all had the unfortunate experience of attempting to shower, without a shower, which then turned it into a bath, however, the bath was child size, which led to it being two taps with inconsistent temperatures, pouring out and down into a plastic bath shaped container! After the first experience, we attempted to search the internet for a local swimming bath/gym/hotel/spa resort for us to use due to the poor state of the bathroom, unfortunately, the wifi was definitely not as advertised which led us on exploring the local regions for the wrong reasons (to find a shower not sight see). As you can imagine, these experiences alone led us to wish the weekend away so we could go back to our home comforts/basic needs, however, to add to the turmoil, the extremely sensitive fire alarms went off every time we attempted to cook a meal from simply making toast in the morning to putting the oven on. To highlight the sensitivity of the alarms, they were triggered by the kettle on one than more occasion. To add to our misery, the onsite owners have an on site business which led to customers driving in and out, parking outside our living room windows/kitchen windows every half an hour. Due to our torrid experience, during the stay i decided to cross reference the cottage visitors book comments with the five left on the Sykes website as I was bemused to why the Alton's were being so aggressively rude to my party and I, as suspected the comments in the book and website did not match up. To add insult to injury, the owners refused to hand back our deposit as we apparently flooded the bathroom, something that the owner claimed the last visitors did too! (please refer to the picture of the bathroom and decide how it is possible to 'flood' a bathroom with those bath fixtures!) This is something we contested with the owners however, the owners we not willing to respond to our messages/calls instead delaying messages via Sykes representatives. In the most simplest terms, if you are looking to book this 'cottage' (outhouse), think again, the price is cheap for a reason, it certainly is NOT value for money or money well spent, more money well lost!

The Byre is just exquisite and the owners are perfect hosts. It was an absolute joy to stay in The Byre and to sit in the beautiful gardens. The owners have taken 'self catering' to a different level - all is of an excellent standard. The Byre has everything you would need and is perfectly located to see both the country and coastal areas of Suffolk. We did not want our holiday to end and look forward to returning. We would not hesitate to highly recommend The Byre - 5 star all the way. Many thanks to owners.

The cottage was beautiful, like staying in a gingerbread house! Everything was spotless and perfect, a real home from home. The beds were comfy with gorgeous duvets. The owners made us so welcome. We would certainly hope to return to The Byre.

We chose this property for a short break with friends to recharge batteries after a good month of all being ill with the flu. This property certainly did not disappoint. Lovingly restored to a very high specification and invitingly warm with the wood burner providing a cosy ambience kindly lit by the owners. Everything we could have wanted and more.
