High Force waterfall, just a short walk uphill from Aira Force. |
Near the northern tip of Ullswater stands Dacre. The historic church at Dacre is surrounded by four mysterious statues, possibly depicting bears. The origin of the Dacre bears is lost in time, and that is part of their appeal. |
Looking north along Ullswater from the top of Hallin Fell. You can park at the bottom of Hallin Fell, opposite the church, and climb a well-marked path to the top of the hill for wonderful views. |
Looking from Hallin Fell, on the eastern shore of Ullswater, into Martindale. This is one of the most secluded spots in the Lake District, yet it is not far at all from major tourist areas. |
Dawn comes up over Ullswater near Pooley Bridge, the northern terminus of the Ullswater Steamer. Boats carry visitors up and down the lake as far as Glenriding. |
