Located at the junction of the Severn and Avon rivers, Tewkesbury is best known for its superb abbey church of St Mary the Virgin, which has the tallest Norman tower in England. The abbey itself is gone, dissolved by Henry VIII, but the church was saved from destruction when the townsfolk of Tewkesbury bought it to be their parish church. Within a stone's throw of the abbey are two medieval inns and a row of attractive timber-framed almshouses. The medieval alleys of Tewkesbury have survived around the town core, and down one of these narrow alleys stands the Old Baptist Chapel, a lovely old 17th-century building.

Upper Slaughter is an undiscovered gem of a village, overlooked by the hordes that descend upon nearby Bourton on the Water. A quiet stream flows through the village centre, past houses of honey-coloured Cotswold stone. Upper Slaughter Manor is a beautiful Tudor house on earlier medieval foundations.

Winchcombe is a beautifully timeless village of matchless warm-toned Cotswold stone cottages, tea shops, and traditional medieval architecture. A short walk leads to nearby Sudeley Castle, the final home of Queen Catherine Parr. The late 15th-century parish church of St Peter is known for its collection of amusing carved heads decorating the eaves. Just outside Winchcombe is Belas Knap chambered tomb.

Wyck Rissington is one of four 'Rissingtons' clustered in the lovely Cotswold countryside near Stow on the Wold. The village boasts a long and very wide green and the 13th-century church of St Laurence. A 20th-century vicar famously built a maze in the garden of the rectory following an inspirational dream, but most people will come to see the organ played by Gustav Holst when he served as organist here.
