Althorp is famous as the home of the Earl and Countess Spencer, and the ancestral home of Diana, Princess of Wales. There has been a house at Althorp since the beginning of the 16th century when Sir John Spence bought land here. The house that Sir John built provides the essential shape of the current building; an enclosed courtyard with a projecting wing along the south side. Althorp is set in magnificent grounds, covering 450 acres of parkland.

Boughton House has been the home of the Montagu family, Dukes of Buccleuch, since 1528. The fascinating house is Tudor at its core, but was gradually extended and expanded over the years until a complete remodelling of the house in 1695 led to it being dubbed 'The English Versailles'.

A 16th century manor house that has been in the hands of the Brudenell family since 1514. Deene Park was built around a much older medieval manor house, and incorporates parts of the older building. For many years Deene Park was the seat of the Earls of Cardigan. Among the Earls resident at Dene was the 7th Earl, who led the ill-fated Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War.

A lovely 18th century stately home, built by James Gibbs for William Hanbury. Hanbury was an antiquarian of some reputation, when he came into money by marrying the niece of Viscount Bateman. Hanbury hired Gibb to create a classical mansion in Palladian style, replacing a more modest Jacobean house on the site. Gibb worked closely with Francis Smith of Warwick (see Sutton Scarsdale Hall and Gainsborough All Saints church) to create the result you see today; a lovely house composed of a large central block and two wings. The house is set in a mix of parkland and formal gardens on the border between Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.

One of the great Elizabethan houses of England, Kirby Hall was built for Sir Humphrey Stafford of Blatherwick in 1570. Sir Humphrey had little time to enjoy his grand new house, for he died in 1575. The property was purchased by Sir Christopher Hatton of Holdenby, who later rose to become Lord Chancellor to Queen Elizabeth I.

Lamport Hall is a mid 17th century Italianate villa designed by John Webb for the Isham family, on the site of an earlier Tudor manor house. The house was one in the first of the Italianate style to be built in 17th century England. The house was later enlarged by Francis Smith of Warwick, and again in the 1860s, but it still retains its very Italian flavour.

A lovely medieval manor dating to the early 14th century, built of local golden limestone. The house was altered numerous times over the centuries, with additions in the 16th, 18th, and 19th centuries, but it is still essentially the same building that was first erected around 1300.
