Baconsthorpe Castle A moated 15th century manor house in a peaceful countryside setting. The fortified manor house was expanded and rebuilt several times over the course of two centuries by the Heydon family.

 Caister Castle
  

The remains of a 15th century castle surrounded by a moat. The castle was built by Sir John Fastolf, who was the model for Shakespeare's Falstaff. Fastolf built Caister Castle between 1432 and 1446, with a tower that reaches 100 feet in height. Caister was besieged and taken by the Duke of Norfolk in 1468. It was later in the possession of the Paston family, famous for the Paston Letters detailing the rise and fall of the family during the later medieval period. Caister Castle fell into disrepair in the 17th century.

We had the pleasure of visiting here, and our information is based on our personal experiences We took some photos of this location that we'd like to share with you  

Castle Acre Castle Extensive remains of a Norman motte and bailey castle built by the powerful Earl of Surrey, William de Warenne shortly after the Norman conquest. The earthwork defenses are among the best preserved in England from the Norman period. At the other end of the village is Castle Acre Priory, a well preserved 11th century Cluniac abbey also established by de Warenne.

 Castle Rising Castle
  

Castle Rising Castle 12th century castle with the oddly redundant name, built by Henry Albini to celebrate his marriage to the widow of Henry I. Beautifully preserved rectangular keep surrounded by 12 acres of earthwork defenses.

 Norwich Castle
  

Norwich Castle William the Conqueror built the first castle atop a high mound in 1067, using the townsfolk as forced labour. The present Norwich Castle was built 60 years later. The castle is now a museum housing local art, silver, glass, and porcelain, as well as archaeological remains and armour.

 Thetford Castle
  

Thetford Castle The partial remains of a Norman motte and bailey castle. Today only the mound remains, surrounded by extensive earthwork defenses, including twin ditches of considerable height and depth. The mound was erected on top of an earlier Iron Age hillfort. Thetford Castle is the largest motte in England.

 Weeting Castle
  

Weeting Castle A 12th century moated manor house built by the De Plaiz family. The site was first occupied in the late 10th or early 11th century, but around 1180 the De Plaiz family constructed a fortified manor house within a rectangular moat enclosure.
