One of the finest surviving traditional windmills in Lincolnshire. Alford is unusual in that it has five sails. Visitors can see grain being ground and purchase flour from the shop. A short distance away is Alford Manor Museum.

The historic waterfront area of Lincoln marks the point where the Roman Fossdyke meets the River Witham to link Lincoln to the sea. Attractive walkways now line the Pool area, which is known for its population of mute swans. Near Brayside is the 15th century Witch and Wardrobe pub, which is - apparently - haunted by a pair of ill-fated lovers, and a playful poltergeist.

This pair of historic buildings stand at the start of The Strait section of Lincoln's Steep Hill. The Cardinal's Hat is a 15th century three story building with a lower story of brick and a timber-framed upper two floors. Like many 1late medieval and Tudor buildings, the upper floors of the Cardinal's Hat lean out over the lower floor in an attempt to maximize street frontage space. Dernstall House contains masonry dating from the 12th century.

A restored 18th century windmill, one of 9 that used to stand on the high ridge of the Lincoln Edge. The mill was built in 178 and continued in operation until the 1940s. After many years standing derelict it has been restored to fully working order. Volunteer guides show visitors around the mill on weekends in summer, and at other times. See the Museum of Lincolnshire Life website for details of opening times.

A late medieval manor house built by a successful wool merchant. The highlight of Ellys Manor is the series of early Tudor wall paintings, which are reckoned to be among the finest and most complete in England. Sir Niklaus Pvsner, who might be said to know a thing or two about English historic architecture, said of Ellys Manor House, 'The building and paintings are of outstanding historical interest', and called the manor a 'must see'.

A fine 13th/14th century gateway between Castle Square and the Minster Yard that surrounds Lincoln Cathedral. The gate was so named because in the Middle Ages tenants of the cathedral gathered here to pay their rents, and a chequered cloth of alternating black and white squares was used to aide the counting.

An abandoned medieval village; one of the best preserved village sites in England. Gainsthorpe was mentioned in the Domesday Book, and in 1208 it was recorded as having a windmill and chapel. The last reference to the village was in 1383. Further references in the late 17th century indicate that the village was deserted by that time, but remains of over 200 buildings were visible.

Grantham House is a lovely old town house dating to the 14th century (approximately 1380). The house was heavily remodelled in the 16th century to form a beautiful Elizabethan building in the heart of Grantham. The date stone shows 1574 as the date the rebuilding was completed.

The oldest Franciscan church building in England, Greyfriars originally served as the infirmary hall for the monks who formed one of four friaries in medieval Lincoln. The friary was begun around 1237, and completed about 40 years later. Today it is used for regular exhibitions of Lincolnshire archaeology and local history.
