Mid Wales is blessed with an extremely large number of fascinating historic churches, many of them originating before AD 1000 and quite a few closely linked to early Welsh saints.
St Paulinus' dates to the 15th century and features a barrel roof, and early Tudor doors and windows, and a 13th century font. Despite a major mid 19th century refurbishment the church has retained many of its medieval features.

The 19th-century church of St Gwrthwyl in Llanwrthwl stands on the site of a medieval church said to have been established by Gwrthwyl in the 5th or 6th century. Outside the church is a large prehistoric standing stone and inside is a fascinating 12th-century font carved with human heads.
