The first house at Ragley dates to at least the 14th century, for in 1381 Richard granted a license to crenellate the hall to its owner. The current Ragley Hall is a superb 17th and 18th century stately home, designed by Robert Hooke for the Earl of Conway. The list of later architects to take a hand in the development of Ragley reads like a who's who of famous British designers. That list includes James Gibbs, Robert Adam, and James Wyatt. The Baroque Great Hall of Ragley is one of the finest examples of 18th century architecture in Britain. Much of the interior is rococo in style, with a notable collection of Chippendale furniture. The parkland surrounding the house was landscaped by Capability Brown in the 1750s.
